Photo from PCO livestream/File</span></span></span></div><p>MANILA <strong>(UPDATE) </strong>— Communications Undersecretary Claire Castro will be retained as Palace Press Officer, Presidential Communications Office (PCO) Secretary Dave Gomez confirmed to Malacañang reporters Wednesday.</p><div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/nation/2025/7/11/new-pco-chief-dave-gomez-on-criticisms-i-am-not-part-of-tobacco-industry-anymore-2015">New PCO chief Dave Gomez on criticisms: I am not part of tobacco industry anymore</a></div><p>Gomez in a special order signed last July 29 “confirmed and recognized” the designation of Castro as Palace Press Officer, “effective immediately.” </p><p>“As such, Undersecretary Castro shall lead the coordination and delivery of official press briefings and media engagements on behalf of the Office of the President and the PCO,” he said. </p><p>Her responsibilities include, among others, officially speaking and briefing the media in her capacity as Palace Press Officer, and &quot;providing timely statements and clarifications on Presidential engagements, policies, and positions, as may be authorized.&quot;</p><p>“This confirmation shall not entail the creation of a new plantilla item or result in additional compensation beyond those authorized by applicable laws and regulations,” the order read.</p><div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/nation/2025/7/16/pco-chief-dave-gomez-orders-courtesy-resignation-of-officials-until-july-18-0814">PCO chief Dave Gomez orders courtesy resignation of officials until July 18</a></div><p>Castro earlier this month said she had complied to the new Secretary’s order for all PCO officials to submit their courtesy resignation. </p><p>She said the order gives Gomez “the leeway to choose the people he wants to work with at the PCO.”</p><p>In a text message to Malacañang reporters, Gomez said that Castro “is doing a fine job.” </p><p>The PCO Secretary also noted that there had been no new appointees to the PCO, following reports that some former journalists will be named new undersecretaries of the Department.</p><div><br/></div><div><strong></strong><strong>RELATED VIDEO</strong></div><div><br/></div><div><strong><span class="fr-video fr-deletable fr-fvc fr-dvb fr-draggable" contenteditable="false" draggable="true"><iframe width="640" height="360" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/FJo5Ma-Oftg?&amp;wmode=opaque&amp;rel=0" frameBorder="0" allowfullscreen="" class="fr-draggable"></iframe></span></strong><br/></div>
