The National Police Commission on Friday said it is investigating several police officers including those in top posts who have been linked to the disappearance of scores of “sabungeros” for the past 4 years.

“Ang setting nito 4 years…Most likely they are still in the active service. Medyo nagkalat po ‘yan, mula sa pinakamababa hanggang sa pinakamataas,” Napolcom vice chairperson Atty. Rafael Calinisan said in a DZMM interview.

A whistleblower with the alias “Totoy” has accused businessman Atong Ang, celebrity Gretchen Barretto and several individuals of involvement in the disappearances, saying the cockfighters were killed for various offenses including cheating in online sabong.

He claimed the killings have been ongoing for a long time, claiming the lives of more than 100 people, many of whom strangled and their bodies dumped in Taal Lake.

Ang has denied the allegations, saying “Totoy” had tried to extort him for millions of pesos.

Calinisan said Napolcom is looking at the administrative aspect of the case, whether or not police linked to the killings are fit to wear the uniform. He added Napolcom can also initiative summary dismissal proceedings.

Cops found guilty of grave misconduct could face suspension, demotion or dismissal from service while those found guilty of murder will be dismissed outright.

“If they are still in active service, wear a uniform and wear a badge, they are very dangerous…If they are guilty, they must be dismissed,” he said.
