Photo from PCG/Facebook</span></span></span></div><p>MANILA — The Philippine Coast Guard on Tuesday recognized the &quot;bravery&quot; of its crew and other personnel for upholding safety and security during a recent encounter with Chinese vessels in the West Philippine Sea.</p><p>A Chinese navy vessel collided with one from its own coast guard while chasing the Philippine patrol boat BRP Suluan (MRRV-4406) in the West Philippine Sea on Monday.</p><p>The incident occurred near the contested Scarborough Shoal or Bajo de Masinloc as the PCG escorted boats distributing aid to fishermen in the area, Commodore Jay Tarriela, spokesperson for the West Philippine Sea, said in a statement.</p><div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/nation/2025/8/11/2-chinese-ships-collide-after-chasing-philippine-vessel-in-bajo-de-masinloc-pcg-1102">2 Chinese vessels collide while chasing Philippine boat in Bajo de Masinloc: PCG</a></div><p>Admiral Ronnie Gil Gavan, PCG commandant, spearheaded the awarding ceremony for BRP Suluan at Pier 15, Port Area in Manila, the agency said in a release.</p><p>Gavan &quot;commended the bravery, selfless dedication, and sacrifices of PCG personnel in upholding safety and security within the Philippine territory,&quot; PCG said.</p><p>He also recognized the efforts of the West Philippines Sea Group in handling the information operation and coordination during the maritime patrol.</p><p>&quot;You have proven that indeed we are the most durable point man in keeping the peace at sea,&quot; Gavan said in the release.</p><p>&quot;Bravo Zulu everyone.
