<p>MANILA — The House Committee on Appropriations officially commenced Monday the deliberations on the proposed P6.793 trillion national budget for 2026. </p><div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/nation/2025/8/13/dbm-transmits-2026-national-expenditure-program-to-congress-1058">DBM transmits proposed P6.79-T budget for 2026 to Congress</a></div><p>&quot;Just as every Filipino household plans its budget with care, we too must ensure that each peso serves a meaningful purpose... Bawat gastusin ay dapat may pakinabang sa tao,&quot; said House Speaker Martin Romualdez.</p><p>Budget Secretary Amenah Pangandaman, Economic Planning Secretary Arsenio Balisacan Jr., and Finance Secretary Ralph Recto are also present in today&#x27;s budget briefing. </p><p>President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., during his fourth State of the Nation Address, said <a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/business/2025/7/28/marcos-warns-i-won-t-sign-budget-misaligned-with-gov-t-plans-1831">he would not sign</a> the national budget into law if it is &quot;misaligned&quot; with his administration&#x27;s programs.</p><p>Romualdez in Monday&#x27;s hearing said lawmakers will scrutinize the spending plan, but added that they consider the Executive branch, which crafted the proposed budget, as &quot;ally.&quot;</p><p>&quot;To our partners in the Executive Branch, allow me to be clear: We will scrutinize, we will question, we will deliberate thoroughly.
