San Juan City Mayor Francis Zamora on Monday backed President Ferdinand Marcos Jr’s statement that local governments should be consulted by the Department of Public Works and Highways for national government-funded infrastructure projects.Zamora, president of the Metro Manila Council, said local governments have a better understanding of the needs of their constituents.“Dapat talaga may approval ng LGU. Dapat kinokonsulta ang LGU sapagkat kami po ang nakakaalam ng pangangailangan ng aming mga lunsod at bayan,” he said in a DZMM interview.He said that in San Juan, he knows which areas are always flooded, which places need pumping stations and where retaining walls should be built.“Kung bigla na lang papasok ang DPWH dito at magtatayo ng proyekto, unang-una, paano niya malalaman saan ba dapat magsagawa ng proyekto? Ano ba ang mas nangangailangan na lugar?” he said.He said there are many instances where national government agencies do not coordinate with LGUs.“Minsan nga po nandiyan na ‘yung proyekto at pag natapos na, dun na lang nalalaman na nagkaroon ng problema,” he said. The League of Cities of the Philippines earlier backed  Marcos’ call to review all flood control projects in the country.
