Nicolas Torre III said he respects the decision to remove him from his post as chief of the Philippine National Police less than three months into his term.</p><p>Torre, former head of the Criminal Investigation and Detection and Detection Group, would have reached the mandatory retirement age of 56 next March.</p><p>&quot;Wala akong sama ng loob (I have no resentment). I&#x27;m a good soldier. Kung may order, I just follow it,&quot; said the embattled PNP official in a report by ABS-CBN&#x27;s Vivienne Gulla.</p><p>He said that in this 30-year tenure in the Philippine National Police, &quot;this is not the first time that this happened.&quot; He said that he has always &quot;bounced back&quot; from setbacks. </p><p>&quot;Look at me straight to the eye. Do I look like somebody who is bitter? Kung kamusta ako? Okay,&quot; he said.</p><p>Torre said he remains on good terms with Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla amid rumors of tension between them.</p><p>Remulla said he had tried to personally relay news of Torre&#x27;s relief but that the police general did not receive or return calls.</p><p>“Napakabagal talaga ng internet… It&#x27;s just so unfortunate na paka-bad timing nung mga calls niya. Kaya hindi ako nakareturn call, hindi ko na nareceive,” Torre said.</p><p>(The internet was really slow. It&#x27;s just so unfortunate that there was bad timing on his calls, that&#x27;s why I didn&#x27;t return the calls. I did not receive them)</p><p>Remulla said Tuesday that President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. sought to uphold the authority of the National Police Commission (Napolcom), among other reasons, for relieving Torre.</p><div><br/></div><div><strong>NEW POST?</strong></div><p>Torre refused to respond to queries on a new position reportedly being offered to him by the Palace but said he believes he is not qualified to head the National Bureau of Investigation, which also has a recent vacancy.</p><div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/nation/2025/8/16/nbi-director-santiago-resigns-citing-orchestrated-moves-to-discredit-him-0914"><strong>NBI Director Santiago resigns over &#x27;orchestrated moves&#x27; to discredit him<br/></strong></a></div><p>Under the NBI Act, only lawyers with at least 15 years of practice are qualified to be director.</p><p>Asked whether he has spoken with Marcos Jr., Torre invoked “executive privilege” but said he still supports the chief executive.</p><p>“Let&#x27;s just wait. Masyado namang nauna ang karuwahe dyan. ‘Pag tatanggapin o hindi eh wala pa ngang announcement,” Torre told the media.</p><p>(That&#x27;s putting the cart before the horse. What is there to accept or reject when nothing has been announced?)</p><p>He also wished the new PNP chief Jose Melencio Nartatez, whom he called a very good officer, well at the helm of the police force.  </p><p>“I&#x27;m still composing my thoughts and I&#x27;ll be making a statement in due time,” Torre said when asked if he will take early retirement. </p><p>For now, Torre has only filed for leave and is waiting for the new PNP chief’s action on it.</p><p>Although he has been relieved from his post, Torre remains a member of the PNP.</p><p>Torre visited Mamamayang Liberal Party-List Rep. Leila de Lima in her office on Wednesday. The visit, he said, was to greet her on her birthday.</p><p>Torre denied they discussed anything related to the 2028 polls. </p><p>“Kung plans, unang-una wala akong pera na para sa trabahong ‘yan. Naku po. Diyos ko.
