<div><span class="fr-img-caption fr-fic fr-dib" style="width:960px"><span class="fr-img-wrap"><img src="https://od2-image-api.abs-cbn.com/prod/editorImage/175639647946520190824-belmonte-jc_1.jpg" style="width:960px" class="fr-fic fr-dib"/><span class="fr-inner" style="text-align:left">Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte led an inspection in Libis that revealed multiple offshore gaming companies&#x27; failure to present clearances required to conduct business. <em>Jonathan Cellona, ABS-CBN News/file </em></span></span></span></div><div style="text-align:left"><br/></div><p>MANILA —  In an academic event on Thursday, Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte has a reminder for fellow local officials who have joined the coalition Mayors for Good Governance (M4GG).</p><p>M4GG had gone viral recently for <a href="https://www.facebook.com/M4GGPH/posts/pfbid036d4ntiyD755uQa8pTWDrA1eYFJxLHh5Lv8Uy4ypzz78BTjG6du442Fpk9op8U42Rl">calling for full transparency and accountability in flood control projects nationwide</a>, as the government continues its ongoing crackdown into the anomalies surrounding several contractors, alleged erring lawmakers and Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) officials.</p><div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/business/2025/1/8/mayors-demand-talks-with-dof-over-shortchanged-lgu-tax-share-2108">Mayors demand talks with DOF over &#x27;shortchanged&#x27; LGU tax share</a></div><p>Belmonte, a convener of the coalition, said some may only join M4GG because it&#x27;s trendy — and not because they mean it.</p><p>&quot;Dapat mayroon tayong screening process,&quot; Belmonte joked while giving her speech during the opening of Klaus Hoffarth Center for Critical Thinking (KHC) in Miriam College in Quezon City.</p><p>&quot;Kasi naman baka &#x27;yung mga sumasali, sumasali lang dahil sikat maging good governance advocate ngayon pero baka hindi naman nasa puso nila ang pagiging committed sa mabuting pamamahala at tapat na pamamahala,&quot; she added.</p><p>So far, M444&#x27;s call for transparency and justice on faulty flood control projects had reached over 70 signatures from mayors, according to Belmonte.</p><p>Aside from the QC Mayor, known members of the coalition were Baguio City Mayor Benjie Magalong and Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto.</p><p>Belmonte said the group is not only a response to recent Philippine issues.</p><p>&quot;Our group is more than just a reaction to national issues, our stand is part of our broader mission as champions of integrity, innovation, and people-centered service,&quot; she stressed.</p>
