Yedda and Andrew Julian Romualdez and Jude Acidre, seeks hazard pay of P5,000 a month to prosecutors “assigned to conduct inquest proceedings, preliminary investigation, prosecution and investigation of complex and other high-profile crimes are thereby exposed to risks and perils to their lives.”</p><div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/nation/2025/6/4/doj-circular-raising-standards-on-evidence-questioned-at-sc-1806"><strong>DOJ circular raising standards on evidence questioned at SC</strong><br/></a></div><p>They noted that at least a dozen prosecutors have been killed in the past decade and said those assigned to cases “involving national security, dangerous drugs, terrorism, and notorious criminals” have also received death threats.</p><p>The House approved a similar bill on third and final reading in the last week of the 19th Congress being in session.</p><div> </div><div><strong>PROSECUTORS QUALIFIED FOR HAZARD PAY UNDER THE BILL:</strong></div><p>• Those assigned to investigate or prosecute cases related to drugs, firearms, graft and corruption, money-laundering or terrorism</p><p>• Prosecutors handling transnational and “other crimes with significant impact on the political, economic and socio-cultural stability and security of the country”</p><p>• Those handling illegal logging, illegal mining, wildlife trafficking, and other crimes “with significant impact on the environment”</p><p>• Prosecutors assigned to conflict-affected areas, isolated areas, and areas under a state of calamity or emergency</p><p>• Those handling cases of offenders previously convicted for crimes mentioned above, and those “assigned to other hazardous duties and circumstances analogous to the foregoing.”</p><div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/nation/2025/2/21/denr-lawyers-to-be-deputized-as-prosecutors-vs-environmental-crimes-1318"><strong>DENR lawyers to be deputized as prosecutors vs environmental crimes<br/></strong></a></div><p>The hazard pay will be exempt from taxes and will be funded from the Department of Justice budget on the first year and included in the General Appropriations Act in succeeding years if the bill is passed into law.</p>
