Bea Cuadra, ABS-CBN News "/><span class="fr-inner" style="text-align:left">San Juan City, in partnership with the National Historical Commission of the Philippines, commemorates the 129th Araw ng Pinaglabanan at the Pinaglabanan Shrine this Saturday morning, August 30. <em>Bea Cuadra, ABS-CBN News </em></span></span></span></div><p>MANILA — The City of San Juan, in collaboration with the National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP), marked the 129th Araw ng Pinaglabanan on Saturday morning at the historic Pinaglabanan Shrine.</p><p>The event honored the 1896 Battle of Pinaglabanan, a pivotal moment that launched the Philippine Revolution against Spanish rule. </p><p>Mayor Francis Zamora, who led the commemoration, highlighted the battle&#x27;s significance despite its military outcome. </p><p>&quot;Dito mismo naganap ang battle of Pinaglabanan (This is where the battle of Pinaglabanan actually happened) ,&quot; Zamora stated, explaining that Andres Bonifacio led the attack on the Spanish forces&#x27; gunpowder and water depots on August 30, 1896.</p><p>He added that Bonifacio believed that if they could control the water supply of the Spaniards, they would win the revolution.</p><p>While that did not happen, Zamora said the battle became a signal for a wider revolution that eventually led to independence for the Philippines.</p><p>The mayor urged residents, or San Juaneños, to carry the spirit of the battle in their hearts and minds in whatever they do.</p><p>The solemn rites began at 7 a.m. with a flag-raising ceremony, followed by the lighting of the eternal flame and a wreath-laying ceremony. </p><div><br/></div><div><strong>CITY GOVERNMENT SHOWCASES NEW VEHICLES</strong></div><p>Following the main program, a civic parade showcased the city&#x27;s modern transportation assets along Pinaglabanan Street.</p><p>The parade featured 83 new vehicles acquired this year under the 2025 re-fleeting program, alongside other vehicles added since Zamora took office in 2019.</p><p>The new fleet includes security and disaster response vehicles, which are intended to bolster the city&#x27;s operational capacity and emergency preparedness. Zamora explained the importance of the new fleet. </p><p>&quot;These vehicles are important so that our staff and officials of our barangays and also our city government can serve our citizens better,&quot; he said.</p><p>The mayor emphasized the need for vehicles for a variety of services, including emergency responses, street patrols, and hospital-related needs.
