Katrina Domingo, ABS-CBN News</span></span></span></div><div><br/></div><p>MANILA<strong> (2nd UPDATE) </strong> — A Philippine Air Force (PAF) personnel was taken to a hospital on Monday after a snake slithering around Villamor Air Base bit him, hours before President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s flight to India.</p><p>The snake was found concealed within shrubs several meters across the airplane that will carry the President to India, where he is scheduled for a state visit this week.</p><div><span class="fr-video fr-deletable fr-fvc fr-dvb fr-draggable" contenteditable="false" draggable="true"><iframe src="https://www.facebook.com/plugins/video.php?height=476&amp;href=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2Freel%2F1913507726160366%2F&amp;show_text=false&amp;width=267&amp;t=0" width="267" height="476" style="border:none;overflow:hidden" scrolling="no" frameBorder="0" allowfullscreen="" class="fr-draggable"></iframe></span><br/></div><div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/nation/2025/7/31/marcos-to-go-on-5-day-state-visit-to-india-in-august-1139">Marcos to go on 5-day state visit to India in August</a></div><p>PAF officials were seen grabbing the snake and placing the reptile inside a sack before the President’s arrival.</p><div><br/></div><div><strong>&#x27;STABLE&#x27;</strong></div><div><br/></div><p>The PAF personnel who was bitten is in stable condition, PAF chief Lt. Gen. Arthur Cordura told reporters.</p><p>“He was just administered [with] anti-tetanus kasi it’s not venomous,” he said.</p><div><br/></div><div><span class="fr-video fr-deletable fr-fvc fr-dvb fr-draggable" contenteditable="false" draggable="true"><iframe src="https://www.facebook.com/plugins/video.php?height=314&amp;href=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2Freel%2F1126963549247094%2F&amp;show_text=false&amp;width=560&amp;t=0" width="560" height="314" style="border:none;overflow:hidden" scrolling="no" frameBorder="0" allowfullscreen="" class="fr-draggable"></iframe></span>The PAF will be checking the “porous” areas of the Villamor Air Base to prevent a similar incident in the future, he said.</div><div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/02/02/17/snake-bites-man-in-cebu"> Snake bites man in Cebu</a></div><p>“Yung drainage area connected to localities so it thrives in those areas so with the series of rain, which makes the area here damp… it is not unusual pero it is preventable so we need to reinforce it some more para hindi na maka enter dito,” he said.</p><p>“When we do excavations, talagang may nakikita kaming mga sawa sawa sa periphery,” he added.</p><div><br/></div><div><strong>&#x27;NO BIG DEAL&#x27;</strong></div><div><br/></div><p>Despite this, Cordura assured that the snake’s appearance near the Maharlika Lounge — which is usually used for the departure and arrival of the President’s official flights — “is not a cause for concern.”</p><p>“I hope we do not make a big deal out of this because it was addressed outright,” he said.</p><p>“Siguro it is a reminder for us to secure it some more, especially yung mga facilities na dinadagsa ng tao.”</p><p>Marcos is visiting India from August 4 to 8 upon the invitation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. </p><div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/nation/2025/8/1/marcos-to-sign-at-least-six-deals-in-india-state-visit-dfa-1302">Marcos to sign at least six deals in India state visit: DFA</a></div><p>Marcos is expected to meet with the business sectors in New Delhi and Bangalore, the Palace said.
