Ignacio, and other Philippine and Indian officials.   Noel Pabalate, PPA pool </span></span></span></div><p>MANILA — President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Tuesday said he hoped to “explore opportunities” with India in various areas of cooperation during his five-day state visit.</p><p>Indian President Droupadi Murmu and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi welcomed Marcos at the Rashtrapati Bhavan, the Presidential palace and residence, with arrival honors and a 21-gun salute. </p><p>Murmu and Modi shook hands with the Philippine delegation mainly composed of Philippine Cabinet secretaries.</p><p>Answering a question from the local media on his expectation for the visit, Marcos called it a “reaffirmation of alliance” and strengthening of partnership with the Indo-Pacific region.</p><p>“I want to build upon what we already have now, but certainly to explore the many opportunities that have arisen in the past two years because of the new technologies and the changing state of the global economy and the geopolitics around this thing,” he said. </p><p>He later on proceeded to a wreath-laying ceremony at the Raj Ghat or the Mahatma Gandhi Memorial.</p><p>Marcos will hold a bilateral meeting with Modi in the afternoon and they will issue a joint statement afterwards.</p><p>Talks between Marcos and Modi are expected Tuesday with a focus on expanding maritime security coordination and intelligence-sharing.</p><p>Marcos arrived in India on Monday Indian Navy warships took part in patrols of the West Philippine Sea with their Philippine counterparts for the first time.</p><p>The Philippines has heightened defense cooperation with a range of allies over the past year after a series of clashes with China in the waterway. </p><p>India is a member of the Quad group, which includes fellow democracies the United States, Japan and Australia.
