Jonathan Cellona, ABS-CBN News</span></span></span></div><p>MANILA<strong> (UPDATE) </strong>— House Speaker Martin Romualdez questioned on Thursday what he called a “rushed” move by the Senate to archive the articles of impeachment against Vice President Sara Duterte—even before the Supreme Court decision nullifying it becomes final.</p><div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/nation/2025/8/7/lawmakers-blast-senate-archiving-of-vp-impeachment-imee-s-bonjing-remark-1204"> Lawmakers blast Senate archiving of VP impeachment, Imee&#x27;s &#x27;bonjing&#x27; remark</a></div><p>“Why the rush?” the House leader asked.</p><p>“To archive is, in effect, to bury the Articles of Impeachment. Yet the ruling of the Supreme Court is not final. On August 5, the House of Representatives filed a Motion for Reconsideration. The Court found our arguments serious enough to require the respondents, including the Vice President, to submit their comment. The case is active,” Romualdez said.</p><p>“Let’s be clear: The filing of the complaint was not rushed. What was rushed—remarkably—was its burial,” he stressed.</p><div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/nation/2025/8/6/senators-voting-on-marcoleta-motion-to-archive-sara-duterte-impeachment-1906">Senate archives Sara Duterte impeachment case</a></div><p>Sen. Imee Marcos said the archived impeachment case against Duterte was indeed &quot;dead,&quot; but not yet buried.</p><p>&quot;Yes, it&#x27;s dead but it&#x27;s not really buried. But, yes, it&#x27;s dead. In effect, because it&#x27;s in the archive, but... pwede naman hugutin pa ulit kung magbago ang Korte Suprema,&quot; Sen. Marcos said.</p><p>Sen. Marcos also maintained that the Senate did not rush in its decision on the case.</p><p>&quot;Hindi naman paspasan eh. Matagal na rin eh. Kailan ba lumabas yung Supreme court? So, nakalipas din yung ilang linggo. Hindi naman talagang pinagmadalian, she said.</p><div><br/></div><div><strong>&#x27;GOOD FAITH&#x27;</strong></div><div><br/></div><p>He defended the lower chamber’s move to impeach the Vice President, saying it was in accordance with the Constitution, and was exercised “in good faith”.</p><p>Romualdez issued the statement after Senate President Francis Escudero, who voted to archive Duterte’s impeachment case, advised congressmen not to allow themselves “to be used for the blind hatred and ambition of a few, who did things haphazardly, gravely abused their discretion, and violated due process rights under the Constitution as found by the High Court itself.&quot;</p><p>The House Speaker said sweeping accusations and a narrative that supposedly seeks to reduce efforts to hold public officials accountable into “mere power play” are “unfair and dangerous” to the country’s democracy.</p><div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/nation/2025/8/6/filipinos-loss-if-senate-votes-to-dismiss-vp-sara-impeachment-house-spox-1305?utm_source=dlvr.it&amp;utm_medium=facebook&amp;fbclid=IwY2xjawL_x1pleHRuA2FlbQIxMQABHoy0tiGyB4JtOpHpJdKo14_moX-KVpHisFmWFpAjLJg3xkr3d6EuSzacWil1_aem_xNNOs2u2VS_PKyukN3O2gQ">Filipinos&#x27; &#x27;loss&#x27; if Senate votes to dismiss VP Sara impeachment: House spox</a></div><p>“We exercised that power lawfully, transparently, and in good faith—not out of spite, but out of duty. Not to attack, but to ask for answers—answers the Vice President never gave,” Romualdez asserted.</p><p>“This was never about political maneuvering. It was about accountability—pananagutan—anchored on verified facts and sworn documents,” he stressed.</p><div><br/></div><div><strong>&#x27;TULOY ANG LABAN&#x27;</strong></div><div><br/></div><p>“Yet we have been met with personal attacks, sweeping accusations, and a narrative that seeks to reduce a solemn constitutional duty into mere power play. That’s not just unfair—it is dangerous. For the Constitution. For the rule of law.
