<div><span class="fr-video fr-deletable fr-fvc fr-dvb fr-draggable" contenteditable="false" draggable="true"><iframe width="640" height="360" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/Kpbqr2s2yEY?&amp;wmode=opaque&amp;rel=0" frameBorder="0" allowfullscreen="" class="fr-draggable"></iframe></span><br/></div><p>MANILA — The Senate Blue Ribbon Committee on Thursday cited government contractor Curlee Discaya in contempt for allegedly lying.</p><p>During the resumption of the panel&#x27;s inquiry into alleged corruption in flood control projects, Discaya told senators that his wife Sarah, also a contractor, could not attend the hearing due to a &quot;heart condition.&quot;</p><p>But when Sen. Panfilo Lacson read Sarah&#x27;s letter excusing herself from Thursday&#x27;s hearing, she cited a different reason.</p><p>She stated in the letter that she was scheduled to meet with her employees to discuss the current problems her companies were facing. </p><p>Earlier this month, the Philippine Contractors Accreditation Board <a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/business/2025/9/3/9-discaya-firms-lose-licenses-for-bidding-against-each-other-on-projects-1249">revoked the contractors&#x27; licenses of nine companies</a> owned or controlled by the Discayas.</p><p>Sen. Kiko Pangilinan quickly accused Mr. Discaya of lying.</p><p>Sen. Erwin Tulfo interjected, saying, &quot;Binabastos mo kami. Huwag mo kaming lokohin. Iba sinasabi mismo ng misis mo. &#x27;Di ba kayo nag-usap?&quot;</p><p>Tulfo warned Discaya that the panel has the power to cite him for contempt.</p><p>Sen. Panfilo Lacson, who now leads as the new chairperson of the Blue Ribbon Committee, suggested that Discaya first explain himself before deciding on the motion to cite him in contempt.</p><p>Discaya apologized, saying he did not intend to lie before the committee and explained that his wife has diabetes, hypertension, and is currently on maintenance medicine.</p><p>Sen. Risa Hontiveros, however, pointed out that the illnesses mentioned by Discaya were not the same as a heart condition.</p><p>&quot;Lalo siyang nalulunod sa baha nung mali-maling sagot niya,&quot; Hontiveros said.</p><p>&quot;Very inconsistent &#x27;yung pinagsasasabi nitong si Mr. Discaya,&quot; Sen. Raffy Tulfo said. &quot;Mag-asawa sila, imposibleng di sila nag-uusap.
