MANILA — The national government has allotted P33.76 million in cash aid for some 2,200 families whose houses were ravaged by a fire in Tondo, Manila over the weekend.Each family is expected to receive P15,000, according to information released to Palace reporters on Thursday as President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. visited three evacuation centers in Happyland, Tondo, Manila where the fire victims have been taking shelter for nearly a week.“Ginagawa po namin ‘yan dahil siyempre lahat kailangan ng pagkain, lahat kailangan ng gamot, lahat kailangan ng pagsisilungan,” the President told fire victims who gathered at the Gen. Vicente Lim Elementary School in the capital city.“Ngunit hindi lahat ng pamilya pare-pareho ang pangangailangan. Mayroon ‘yung may batang maliit, may sanggol, mayroon ‘yung mga mas matanda… kaya nagbibigay po kami ng cash para mayroon kayong gagamitin para sa sarili ninyong pangangailangan para sa pamilya ninyo,” he said.Affected families will also receive sleeping kits, hygiene kits, food packs, and hot meals from the government.“Ang dapat talaga pagkatapos po nito, pagka panahon na puwede na kayong bumalik sa inyong mga tahanan ay ang gagawin po natin ay titingnan po natin kung papaano makatulong ‘yung pamahalaan para sa pagpatayo ulit ng bahay o pagrehabilitasyon ng bahay, pagpaayos ng bahay,” Marcos Jr. said.“Siguro next time huwag na kayong nagsisiga dito sa malapit sa mga bahay para hindi na maulit itong sunog na ganito,” he said.“Naintindihan ko naman wala ng paglalagyan. Pero pag-ingatan po ninyo kasi kawawa naman ‘yung mga nasasalanta sa mga ganyang klaseng calamity. Kaya’t ingat-ingat lang po.”Before leaving the evacuation center, Marcos Jr. assured fire victims that they can count on the government for support.“Nag-uusap po kami ng – nag-uusap kami ni Mayor, ika namin sa isa’t isa – ika namin, alam mo ang Pilipino lang ang makikita mo, nasunugan na ng bahay, nakangiti pa, kumakanta pa,” the President said.“Ang galing talaga ng Pinoy. Ibang klase talaga ang tibay, tapang ng Pilipino Ipagpatuloy niyo po ‘yan. Nandito po kami sa likod ninyo,” he said.“Pati medical team, mayroon po diyan medical team kasi lagi naming inaalala kapag ganyan mga evacuation center, kapag ka napakasikip, eh isa lang diyan magkasipon, wala pang isang araw nagkalat na ‘yan lalo na ‘yung mga maliliit,” he said.“Kaya po ay sige lang po, ﻿kaunting tiyaga lang po. Gagawin po namin ang lahat para makabalik na kayo sa normal na ninyong buhay.”The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) earlier said that the cost of damage due to the 10-hour blaze over the weekend was at P1.5 million.
