MANILA - Tropical cyclone Opong has left 13 dead in the country,  the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) said Saturday.The OCD said 3 fatalities are from Masbate while 10 are from Eastern Visayas. “Sa pinakahuling tala ng casualties sa Bagyong Opong, umabot na sa 13 ang mga kababayan nating nasawi,” Castillo stated, adding that “kasalukuyang vina-validate ng Management of the Dead and Missing Cluster ang mga impormasyong ito,” OCD spokesperson Junie Castillo said.The OCD added that that more than 23,330 families are currently sheltered in 1,482 evacuation centers. Castillo said relief operations are in full swing. “Merong sapat na pagkain para sa evacuation centers at tuloy-tuloy na nire-replenish ng food and non-food clusters ang family food packs sa iba’t ibang lugar.”Meanwhile, five fishermen who were reported missing in Eastern Samar have safely returned home, the OCD said. The Province of Masbate has also declared a state of calamity due to severe damage. Relief items are currently en route to the province. To assist in power restoration, the Department of Energy has mobilized Task Force Kapatid, composed of various electric cooperatives. Shelter materials are also being preparedm Castillo said.Clearing operations continue across affected areas. Emergency communications support has been deployed, including Starlink units in Batangas, Oriental Mindoro, Palawan, and Romblon. Additional mobile facilities are being arranged for Masbate.The total number of affected individuals from Typhoons Mirasol, Nando, and Opong has reached 2,171,964 nationwide, the OCD said. Initial damage to infrastructure is estimated at over P822 million, while agricultural losses are nearing ₱915 million. The Department of Education has supported the use of schools as temporary shelters. Medical and public health supplies have been distributed to CAR, Central Luzon, MIMAROPA, Central Visayas, and Bicol Region. <div> </div><div><iframe width="640" height="360" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/kNxwIpz5gtY??si=lnvMSil7VQ_y4wd5&amp;wmode=opaque&amp;rel=0" frameBorder="0" allowfullscreen="" class="fr-draggable"></iframe> </div>
