MANILA — Dismissed Albay Gov. Edcel Greco Alexander “Grex” Lagman on Monday sought a travel clearance from Sandiganbayan for a trip to Thailand with his family.Lagman is facing indirect bribery and graft cases at the anti-graft court for allegedly receiving gifts, benefits, and “protection money” for illegal numbers game jueteng.He pleaded not guilty in these cases.He told ABS-CBN News in a chance interview that his trip to Thailand from Oct. 9 to 14 is meant for a “family vacation.” He declined to further comment on this, insisting the sub judice rule.  In his motion to travel abroad, Lagman said that he is not a flight risk and emphasized that this is part of his constitutionally-protected right.His camp also noted that he would come back to the Philippines because he is determined to prove his innocence.But the prosecution opposed Lagman’s scheduled trip since this is supposedly for “purely” personal reasons and they do not see any urgency for this to push through.This was also unnecessary, they said.The prosecution asked the anti-graft court to double the travel and bail bond should it give the travel clearance, to which Lagman’s camp agreed.The Sandiganbayan 3rd Division has yet to issue a resolution on Lagman’s motion as of this story’s posting.It can be remembered that in April, the Ombudsman found Lagman guilty of grave misconduct for supposedly receiving money from “jueteng” operators. He was ordered dismissed from service, along with other accessory penalties.
