MANILA — The Department of Justice refused to grant the request of the lawyer of Senator Ronald Dela Rosa for information on the supposed arrest warrant issued by the International Criminal Court against the lawmaker.On Facebook, Atty. Israelito Torreon posted the reply of Chief State Counsel Dennis Arvin Chan dated December 4, 2025 which he received on Jaunary 8, 2028.Torreon said he posted the letter because “the public needs to know” the official reply of the DOJ.Asked for confirmation if the DOJ sent Torreon the letter, DOJ spokesperson Atty. Polo Martinez said the document is “authentic.”In the letter, Chan noted that Torreon requested for confirmation and clarification on “critical matters” such as whether the DOJ has received any formal or informal communication from the ICC, the International Criminal Police Organization or Interpol or any foreign government related to an arrest warrant, red notice or surrender request concerning Dela Rosa.Torreon also requested if there was communication made through the Department of Foreign Affairs and if there was any order issued by the DOJ to the National Bureau of Investigation, the Bureau of Immigration or the Philippine National Police.“Consistent with judicial courtesy accorded to all courts, we regret that we cannot issue any advice or guidance on the matter,” Chan said.The DOJ further noted that the Supreme Court has already taken cognizance of the arrest warrant issue when it denied the request of Dela Rosa’s camp to compel the government to produce the alleged ICC warrant. “The request for clarification on the matters pertaining to the Witness Protection, Security and Benefit Program has been referred to the Program Director for appropriate action,” Chan said. Dela Rosa has not shown up at the Senate since Ombudsman Jesus Crispin Remulla claimed late last year that the ICC has already issued an arrest warrant against the senator for his alleged involvement in the drug war of former President Rodrigo Duterte.<div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/nation/2026/1/11/-he-is-running-away-de-lima-balks-at-comparison-to-absentee-dela-rosa-1510">READ: &#x27;He is running away&#x27;: De Lima balks at comparison to absentee Dela Rosa</a></div>
