Nicolas Torre III has been approved, paving the way for the formal appointment of acting PNP chief Lt. Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. as the next head of the police force.</p><div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/nation/2025/8/26/nartatez-to-replace-torre-as-pnp-chief-1004">Nartatez to replace Torre as PNP chief: DILG</a></div><p>Torre’s optional retirement from the PNP service took effect on December 26, 2025, after he assumed the post as general manager of the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA), based on a PNP resolution obtained by ABS-CBN News.</p><div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/nation/2025/12/26/former-pnp-chief-torre-takes-oath-as-mmda-general-manager-1258">Former PNP chief Torre takes oath as MMDA general manager</a></div><p>Torre will receive a longevity pay and retirement benefits equivalent to his present rank as approved by the NAPOLCOM Resolution No. 2026-0029 dated January 19, 2026. </p><p>With his retirement from the PNP, Nartatez is expected to be formally appointed as the next PNP chief and elevated to the rank of four-star general. </p><p>“Scheduled for donning but no definite date pa this week,” PNP spokesperson Brig. Gen.
