MANILA -- Malacañang reiterated its stance against fake news, saying that those who violate the law should be held accountable.This was the response of Palace Press Officer Undersecretary Claire Castro when asked about social media personality Jack Argota, who went to the National Bureau of Investigation Cybercrime Division on Wednesday to explain for allegedly sharing a fake medical certificate of Ferdinand Marcos Jr. online.<div><a class="fr-green fr-strong" href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/nation/2026/2/18/-para-makasabay-sa-uso-vlogger-inaming-nag-post-ng-pekeng-medical-certificate-ni-marcos-1551">Vlogger inaming nag-post ng pekeng medical certificate ni Marcos</a></div>He said he shared the sham material to keep up with the trend.“May mali ako. Humingi ako ng pasensya,” Argota said.“Hindi po kasi ginagawang biro ang pagku-content lalo na kung makakaapekto ito hindi lamang sa taong ginawa mong subject matter sa iyong content kung hindi sa buong tao, sa buong mamamayan na maaaring makapanood ng inyong mga fake news,” Castro said in a press briefing Wednesday, February 18.“So, nilalabanan po natin ang fake news, at hindi po dapat ito gagawin at pagkasabi ng sorry ay tapos na,” Castro noted.The Palace official is leaving it up to the NBI to investigate and hold fake news peddlers accountable.“So, tingnan na lamang po natin kung ano ang mangyayari po diyan. At kung wala naman siyang kasalanan, ipagtanggol na lamang niya ang kaniyang sarili,” Castro stated.
