DAVAO CITY - Vice President Sara Duterte told the House of Representatives to wait for her response or whether she would answer the two impeachment complaints filed against her, which is expected to be submitted by Monday. “Malapit naman ang Monday no? Hintayin natin kung magfa-file ako o hindi. Hintay na lang sila na mga taga-House of Representatives,” she said in a media interview in Davao City. She also said it was her first time hearing that a respondent’s choice of lawyers was questioned. House Committee on Justice member and Bicol Saro Party-list Representative Terry Ridon said that in the next hearing of the House Committee on Justice scheduled for Wednesday, March 18, they will discuss a potential conflict of interest involving two of Duterte’s lawyers—former Education Assistant Secretary for Procurement Reynold Munsayac and former Department of Education (DepEd) spokesperson Michael Poa. <div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/nation/2026/3/4/house-panel-sara-duterte-impeachment-complaint-sufficient-in-substance-1403">House panel: Sara Duterte impeachment complaints ‘sufficient in substance’ </a> </div>Duterte did not directly answer the issue on the possible conflict of interest involving her lawyers. “Ngayon ko lang narinig yung respondent ay hindi pinapayagan kung sino ang kanyang lawyers. So bilang isang politician, natural na ganoon ang gagawin sa iyo. So wala lang yan sa akin. Pero ang ginawa nila sa bayan, yung korapsyon at yung abuso nila, hindi yan personal sa akin. So hindi natin yan palalampasin,” she said. Meanwhile, more than two years before the 2028 national elections, Duterte said the potential running mate she earlier revealed she had recruited has yet to decide whether to run. “Meron akong ni-recruit last year, but hindi pa siya nag-decide kung tatakbo siya for vice president or hindi. Hintayin na lang natin yung desisyon niya. Huwag na lang natin siyang guluhin. Huwag na natin siyang pangalanan baka atakehin siya, sisirain yung pangalan niya. And I learned from the pop-up exhibit, your father and you are the only two individuals in our country that held both the VP and president positions,” she said. Duterte also joked that the book and exhibit feature permanent records of the country’s 14 vice presidents, excluding herself. “14 lang kasi hindi pa tapos yung pinaka-15. Hindi natin alam kung ma-impeach siya o hindi. Hindi pa tapos ang kwento niya,” she said. Arroyo, meanwhile, spoke about the hurdles that leaders face, including impeachment, noting that she herself went through four impeachment proceedings. “In a democracy governed by the rule of law, such mechanisms should neither be personal nor political theater. It is important that those in charge conduct the proceedings with sobriety, fairness, and fidelity to the law, free from prejudice, and mindful that institutions must be stronger than momentary passions,” she said in her speech. Speaking about the impeachment cases against Duterte, Arroyo relayed that House Speaker Faustino “Bojie” Dy said the hearings would be handled fairly, as she addressed her colleagues in Congress. “The eyes of the Filipino nation are upon us in Congress. Thus, as we start our floor debates, I urge my fellow congressmen to do so in a spirit described by Speaker Bojie Dy,” she said.
