MANILA -- Filipina migrant workers staged a protest outside the Manila Economic and Cultural Office (MECO) in Taipei, denouncing Taiwanese medtech firm Taidoc Technology and Philippine labor officials for allegedly working together to weaken their union. The demonstration came after Taidoc released a letter signed by the Migrant Workers Office–Taipei under the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA), which questioned the union’s legitimacy. Labor groups condemned the move, saying it mirrors conditions of “forced labor” under International Labour Organization standards. Union leaders said they have faced repeated pressure to disband, with all officers even briefly dismissed before being reinstated. Taiwan’s New Taipei labor office has already fined Taidoc NT$200,000 for violating the Labor Relations Act, but the company insists it has followed the law. Workers vowed to continue their fight, warning that the case highlights the vulnerability of overseas Filipino workers in Taiwan and the urgent need for stronger protection of their rights.ABS-CBN News has reached out to OWWA for a comment.
