BFP/Facebook</span></span></span></div><p>MANILA (<strong>UPDATED</strong>) -- Fire Chief Superintendent Wilberto Rico Neil Kwan Tiu has been designated as the new Officer-in-Charge of the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), following a memorandum issued by Acting Executive Secretary Ralph Recto on Monday.</p><p>According to BFP spokesperson Superintendent Anthony Arroyo, Kwan Tiu previously served as the agency&#x27;s deputy chief for operations.</p><p>Kwan Tiu takes over from Fire Director Jesus Fernandez, who is currently under preventive suspension after being formally charged before the Office of the Ombudsman.</p><div><a class="fr-green fr-strong" href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/nation/2026/3/4/dilg-to-file-raps-vs-bureau-of-fire-protection-chief-over-alleged-corruption-1033">DILG to file raps vs Bureau of Fire Protection chief over alleged corruption</a></div><p>&quot;Siya po ay preventively suspended dahil po sa na-charge or formally charged sa Ombudsman,&quot; Arroyo said.</p><p>The suspension stemmed from criminal and administrative complaints filed by the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) against Fernandez and a supplier.</p><p>The DILG accused Fernandez of alleged violations of the Anti-Graft and Corrupt Practices Act, as well as direct bribery, malversation of public funds, and conspiracy, after allegedly receiving a P14.7-million kickback in connection with the procurement of 132 ambulances for the BFP. </p><p>Administrative charges including grave misconduct, serious dishonesty, and conduct prejudicial to the best interest of the service were also filed.</p><p>Despite the leadership change, Arroyo assured the public that operations of the fire bureau will remain unaffected.</p><p>&quot;Ang BFP naman po ay ang katapatan namin sa aming sinumpaang tungkulin para magligtas ng buhay at ari-arian,&quot; he said.</p><div><br/></div><div><strong>RELATED VIDEO</strong></div><div><span class="fr-video fr-deletable fr-fvc fr-dvb fr-draggable" contenteditable="false" draggable="true"><iframe width="640" height="360" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/LjhEu7uGcy8?&amp;wmode=opaque&amp;rel=0" frameBorder="0" allowfullscreen="" class="fr-draggable"></iframe></span><br/></div>
