German national arrested after rampage inside Makati mall

MAKATI CITY — A German national was arrested after causing a disturbance and damaging property inside a mall in Barangay Carmona, Makati City on Tuesday, March 17. According to Makati City Police, the suspect identified as Alias Tim suddenly went on a rampage at around 9:19 a.m. at the mall’s basement. CCTV footage showed the foreigner entering the mall before abruptly kicking a 55-inch television mounted on a vertical display rack, causing it to topple and break. The damaged display was valued at ₱79,240. The suspect also allegedly smashed the glass cover of a fire hose cabinet worth around ₱3,000, further alarming mall personnel. <div><a class="fr-green" href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/video/news/01/06/24/kawani-ng-immigration-sangkot-sa-road-rage">Kawani ng Bureau of Immigration, sangkot sa road rage</a> </div>Police said the suspect was shouting and acting aggressively inside the mall, prompting security guards to respond. In the middle of the commotion, the foreign national reportedly hurt one of the security personnel before he was subdued. Makati City Police chief PCol Pedro Alagano said the suspect was already causing a disturbance upon entering the mall. “So pagpasok niya, sa di malamang dahilan nagwawala na. Natawag pansin ng security ng mall, nirespondehan na siya,” Alagano said. The suspect was later turned over to the custody of the Makati City Police. Authorities are now coordinating with the Bureau of Immigration and the German Embassy regarding the suspect’s status. <div><a class="fr-green" href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/07/12/23/bi-launches-online-portal-for-some-immigration-services">Immigration bureau launches online portal for some services </a> </div>Initial verification revealed that the foreigner may have already overstayed in the country after his tourist visa reportedly expired on January 24. When approached by a news team for comment, the suspect again became agitated. “What is the embassy, embassy here there, I have no time to this!” he said. He continued to act erratically before being returned to the custodial facility. The suspect is now facing charges for Alarms and Scandals (Article 155) and Malicious Mischief (Article 327) under the Revised Penal Code. He remains under the custody of the Makati City Police as inquest proceedings are being prepared before the prosecutor’s office.
