Bong Suntay on Friday faced complaints for supposed violation of the Safe Spaces Act, the Magna Carta of Women, and the code of conduct for public officials over his sexually suggestive remarks on actress Anne Curtis. </p><p>Carrying a banner with the phrase “Hold Misogynists Accountable”, the group World March of Women (WMW)-Pilipinas marched to the Office of the Ombudsman to for the filing of the complaint, two days ahead of International Women’s Day on March 8. </p><p>The nine complainants included WMW-Pilipinas National Coordinator Jean Enriquez and Joanna Coronacion of Sentro ng mga Nagkakaisa at Progresibong Manggagawa (SENTRO)-Women.</p><p>The Safe Spaces Act penalizes “misogynistic, transphobic, homophobic, and sexist slurs, persistent unwanted comments on one’s appearance,” as well as, “the persistent telling of sexual jokes, use of sexual names, comments and demands, and any statement that has made an invasion on a person’s personal space or threatens the person’s sense of personal safety.”</p><p>“Sa ilalim nito, malinaw na ang gender-based violence kasama ang sexual harassment ay isang pampulikong krimen. Ibig sabihin maaaring magsampa ng kaso ang sinuman na nakasaksi o may personal knowledge tungkol sa paglabag sa batas na ito,” Enriquez said.</p><div><iframe src="https://www.facebook.com/plugins/video.php?height=314&amp;href=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2Freel%2F901895955988085%2F&amp;show_text=false&amp;width=560&amp;t=0" width="560" height="314" style="border:none;overflow:hidden" scrolling="no" frameBorder="0" allowfullscreen=""></iframe></div><div><br/></div><p>During the Tuesday deliberations of the House Committee on Justice, Suntay defended Vice President Sara Duterte’s past statement that she “imagined” herself “cutting” the head of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. by saying he himself experienced having “desire” upon seeing Curtis in public, but he could only “imagine” what could happen.</p><p>Suntay on Thursday acknowledged that using a sexual fantasy &quot;should not&quot; have been done to make a point and &quot;there could have been a better analogy.&quot;</p><p>&quot;Nag-a-apologize ako sa mga taong nasaktan. That analogy should not have been made. If people would want to judge me, yung pagkatao ko based from one statement and forget everything I’ve done in public service since 1998, then I cannot fault them,&quot; he said.</p><p>&quot;That mistake has been made... You know, si Chairperson JC Abalos, he is one of the co-authors of the amended Safe Spaces Act actually. So I think alam niya what will be tackled on, and I, hopefully, know na ‘yung simpatiya niya rin sa mga kababaihan and to what truly happened,” House Committee on Women and Gender Equality Chairperson Ann Matibag said.</p><p>When asked about possible penalties, Matibag replied, “The lowest is censure and then the gravest is suspension.
