MARIKINA (UPDATED) — A disturbance involving an intoxicated man escalated into a violent confrontation after he bit two responding police officers during his arrest on the rooftop of a house in Barangay Marikina Heights.According to authorities, the incident happened at around 6:30 p.m. on April 15, when personnel of Police Sub-Station 8 of the Marikina City Police responded to a report about a man causing trouble on the third floor of a residence along Dao Street.The suspect, identified only as alias “Fred,” was allegedly intoxicated after consuming two bottles of gin mixed with five bottles of an energy drink.Initial investigation revealed that Fred climbed onto the roof while armed with a bladed weapon and threatened to jump. Despite efforts by his friends and responding officers to calm him down and convince him to come down, he refused.After several minutes of negotiation, police found an opportunity to subdue the suspect, leading to a struggle.During the scuffle, Fred bit Patrolman Gerwin Paner on the side of his body. While being handcuffed, he also bit Patrolman Jerry Sasotona on the left ear.“Nung nakita ko po na binababa na po yung patalim sa likod, nagkaroon po ako ng tsansa na dun ko na po grab yung tao, sinunggaban ko na po, hanggang sa nagpambuno na kami doon, hanggang tinawag ko na po yung kasama ko si buddy Sasotona, hanggang nagpagulong gulong kami sa taas ng bubong,” said Paner.“Ako po kasi ang nagpoposas, yung isang kamay niya po ay naposasan ko na, pero sobrang lakas po eh tapos habang pinoposasan ko po, yung dibdib po ni Sir Paner kakagatin, umilag siya dumiretso sa tenga ko at nakagat niya,” said Sasotona.Despite his resistance, officers managed to subdue and arrest the suspect and confiscated the bladed weapon from him.Both the suspect and the injured officers were brought to the hospital for treatment. Marikina City Police chief Police Colonel Jenny Tecson said the responding officers stayed with the suspect for several hours, but he remained incoherent.“Pero doon sa as to the reason hindi nila nakausap siya, hanggang dinala siya sa ospital nag stay sila sa ospital ng 4 hours, para macheck din pero hanggang kanina sir, hanggang nadala siya diyan talaga hindi natin makausap ng matino,” Tecson said.She added that the officers were advised to get anti-tetanus shots as a precaution following the biting incident.“Kagabi inadvisan natin kaagad na magpaturok sila ng anti-tetanus siyempre po hindi dahil sinabi natin na magpa anti-tetanus dahil sa may rabies siya, panigugrado po na yan ginagawa kapag tayo ay nakakagat,” she added.After regaining composure, the suspect apologized to the officers, saying his actions were driven by personal problems.“Problema po sa bahay, kasi ano parang may naghahanap sa akin sa ano pangalan ko kaya umakyat ako dun,” he said.The suspect now faces charges of direct assault, alarm and scandal, disobedience to a person in authority, and violation of Batas Pambansa Blg. 6 or illegal possession of a bladed weapon.<div> </div><div> </div><div> </div>
