The source of the gunshots remains unknown and is still being investigated. <em>Maria Tan, ABS-CBN News</em></span></span></span></div><p>MANILA (<strong>2nd UPDATE</strong>) -- &quot;Everyone is safe&quot; after a shooting incident at the Philippine Senate building on Wednesday night, Senate President Alan Peter Cayetano said.</p><p>Shots were heard past 7:00 p.m. at the Senate, as armed men supposedly entered the second floor of the building. At least 10 gunshots were heard by journalists at the scene. </p><div><a class="fr-green fr-strong" href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/nation/2026/5/13/senate-on-lockdown-osaa-says-it-will-arrest-someone-1953">READ: Shots heard as Senate on lockdown for &#x27;someone&#x27;s&#x27; arrest</a></div><p>Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla and Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. arrived at the building after the incident, with Remulla saying that he was there to &quot;secure the senators.&quot;</p><p>&quot;We thank God that everyone&#x27;s safe,&quot; Cayetano told reporters late Wednesday night. </p><p>Cayetano said he received calls from President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and Defense Sec. Gibo Teodoro to check on the situation. Senators from the majority bloc were present in the building when the shooting occurred.</p><p>Remulla appeared with Cayetano and the rest of the majority bloc nearly three hours after the shooting incident and reported that no one was hurt, wounded or killed. He also announced that a probe is now underway to find out who is behind the shooting.</p><p>&quot;At approximately 7:46 (p.m.), armed men tried to enter through the second floor but were stopped by the OSAA (Office of the Sergeant-At-Arms). They have firearms with them but the OSAA fired a warning shot,&quot; he said.</p><p>&quot;They retreated at the back but started firing indiscriminately. Now, we do not have a definite count of how many people tried to enter. There are no casualties,&quot; he added.</p><p>&quot;We do not know who is behind this, but we will find them,&quot; Remulla also said. &quot;We have all the security footage.&quot;</p><p>&quot;We still have to determine through CCTV footage kung sino and kung ilan talaga sila,&quot; he added.</p><div><br/></div><div><strong>&#x27;WE WILL GET TO THE BOTTOM OF THIS&#x27;</strong></div><p>In a video statement, Marcos Jr. vowed to determine who caused the chaos at the Senate.</p><p>&quot;We agree that the thing to do now is to tell our people all to calm down and we will get to the bottom of this. Alamin natin kung sino ang gumawa ng gulo na ito,&quot; he said. &quot;Kailangan po natin malaman yan. Kaya mag-iimbestiga sabay ang Senado at PNP tungkol dito.&quot;</p><p>Marcos Jr. also made it clear that the government had nothing to do with the incident, amid earlier accusations that agents of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) were involved.</p><p>&quot;Masasabi ko lang at para hindi mag-aalala ang taong bayan, hindi po gobyerno ang gumawa nito,&quot; he said. &quot;Walang pumasok na tigalabas na sundalo, na militar, na NBI sa Senado.&quot;</p><p>NBI Director Atty. Melvin Matibag had also denied the allegations in an interview on ANC.</p><p>&quot;Wala po kami roon,&quot; he said, explaining that they have been told to &quot;stand down.&quot;</p><p>According to Remulla, he was instructed by Marcos Jr. to secure the senators, stressing that they are setting aside politics.</p><p>&quot;In these times of turmoil, politics goes out of the window. We belong to one country. The President has instructions: secure the senators whoever they may be,&quot; he said. </p><p>Meanwhile, the PNP said it is now on full alert due to the situation, and personnel are still &quot;deployed in the area to maintain peace and order while assessment and coordination continue.&quot;</p><p>In a separate statement, the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) said the military personnel seen inside the Senate building were part of the Marine Security &amp; Escort Group (MSEG), who were securing the perimeter of the building.</p><p>&quot;The soldiers seen inside the building were called by the OSAA to assist them in securing the facility,&quot; the AFP said.</p><div><br/></div><div><strong>DELA ROSA &#x27;SECURED&#x27;</strong></div><p>The incident occurred as Senator Ronald &quot;Bato&quot; dela Rosa continued to stay at the Senate building, with the chamber having given him protection.</p><div><a class="fr-green fr-strong" href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/nation/2026/5/13/cayetano-says-sen-dela-rosa-is-secured-okay-2150">READ: Cayetano says Sen. Dela Rosa is &#x27;secured, okay&#x27;; Remulla assures no arrest will be made</a></div><p>Dela Rosa is the subject of an arrest warrant from the International Criminal Court (ICC) over his role in the bloody war on drugs of the Duterte administration. </p><p>According to Remulla, Dela Rosa is still inside the Senate complex, and insisted that no arrest will be made.</p><p>&quot;He is with security personnel. He has been informed of our activities. We have assured him that there is no warrant of arrest to be served,&quot; said the Interior Secretary.</p><p>Cayetano, in an earlier Facebook Live, said their group &quot;will not leave Senator Bato.&quot; He also noted that dela Rosa still has &quot;legal remedies,&quot; with the Supreme Court earlier in the day directing government officials to comment on his plea for a restraining order on the implementation of the ICC&#x27;s arrest warrant. </p><p>Dela Rosa will continue to stay in the Senate building for now, his lawyer, Atty.
