The source of the gunshots remains unknown and is still being investigated. <em>Maria Tan, ABS-CBN News</em><br/></span></span></span></div><p>MANILA <strong>(3RD UPDATE) </strong>— The Philippine National Police&#x27;s Southern Police District (SPD) on Thursday said the alleged suspect in the Senate gunfire incident has been identified and arrested.</p><div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/nation/2026/5/13/-everyone-safe-after-shooting-incident-at-senate-2212">&#x27;Everyone safe&#x27; after shooting incident at Senate; probe underway</a></div><p>The SPD report said the suspect is &quot;employed as a driver at the National Bureau of Investigation.&quot;</p><p>&quot;Initial investigation disclosed that at about 7:50 p.m. [Wednesday], a lone individual... armed with an undetermined caliber firearm, allegedly fired several gunshots inside the Senate building... [T]he said individual was immediately subdued and subsequently arrested by members of the Senate Security Detachment assigned within the premises,&quot; the SPD report said.</p><div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/nation/2026/5/14/afp-chief-brawner-osaa-fired-shots-during-senate-incident-not-marines-1023">AFP chief Brawner: OSAA fired shots during Senate incident, not Marines</a></div><p>The suspect, &quot;Mel Oragon&quot;, was subjected to a paraffin test as part of standard procedure.</p><p>In an interview on Bagong Pilipinas Ngayon, Police Maj. Hazel Asilo, spokesperson of the National Capital Region Police Office, said the suspect is detained at the Pasay City Police Station while going through standard procedures, including medical examination and inquest processing.</p><p>Police Brig. Gen. Randulf Tuaño, chief of the Philippine National Police Public Information Office, confirmed that a person was arrested for carrying spent shells, live ammunition, and magazines. </p><p>Tuaño however clarified that they are still investigating if the suspect is a driver of the NBI.</p><p>Scene of the Crime Operatives (SOCO) of the National Capital Region Forensic Unit, together with the SPD Forensic Unit, have been deployed to conduct crime scene processing, evidence recovery, and laboratory examination.</p><p>The District Explosive Ordnance Disposal and Canine Unit (DECU) of the Southern Police District also conducted area sweeping, bomb threat inspection, and security clearing operations.</p><p>The shooting incident occurred following Sen.
