The waterway plays a vital role in the transport of petroleum products and liquefied natural gas globally. With traffic through the strait halted, oil prices have risen exponentially worldwide.<div><a class="fr-green fr-strong" href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/world/2026/5/2/trump-says-not-satisfied-with-new-iran-proposal-0814">READ: Trump says &#x27;not satisfied&#x27; with new Iran proposal</a></div>&quot;Sa Strait of Hormuz naman, ang minamanmanan natin doon &#x27;yung sitwasyon ng pagtawid ng mga tripulante natin. Higit kumulang meron nang 1,300 pero merong recent na nagsusubok tumawid -- hindi ko na babanggitin kung ano -- pero meron tayong inaantabayan na at least labing apat naman na makakatawid na. Hopefully, makatawid sila,&quot; DMW Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac said Saturday, as they welcomed and assisted another batch of repatriates from Kuwait in Pasay City. Around 3,300 Filipino seafarers are still in the Persian Gulf, according to Cacdac. He assured that they have been in contact with the licensed manning agency and shipowners to ensure adequate supplies and welfare.&quot;Patuloy naman ang trabaho nila on board. Hindi naman sila &#x27;yung stranded na idle na walang ginagawa. They continue to work kasi they need to run their respective ships. Patuloy &#x27;yung kanilang mga sweldo, &#x27;yung allotments na pinapadala nila sa kanilang mga mahal na pamilya,&quot; the DMW chief said. &quot;Yung napuntahan ko sa Al Khobar, Saudi Arabia a week ago, na mga tripulante na nandun sa mga offshore na nagtatrabaho within the Persian Gulf. &#x27;Yun naman, sila rin ay safe and sound,&quot; he added.For now, Cacdac noted that they are working on the &#x27;replacement crew&#x27; for seafarers who have finished their contracts. &quot;Minsan kasi meron ng mga tinatawag na &#x27;fatigue&#x27; at saka &#x27;yung may mga karamdaman tapos sila dapat napapalitan. Kaya&#x27;t ayun, isa pa natin isinasagawa together with the ship owners,&quot; he added. <div><a class="fr-green fr-strong" href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/nation/2026/4/24/dmw-ensures-safety-of-15-filipino-seafarers-after-iran-seizes-ships-near-hormuz-0059">READ: DMW ensures safety of 15 Filipino seafarers after Iran seizes ships near Hormuz</a></div>So far, the Philippine government has repatriated around 8,600 overseas Filipinos from the Middle East since the conflict erupted triggered by the US-Israel attacks on Iran.On Saturday, 165 overseas Filipinos workers were repatriated from Kuwait and received various services from the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) in its repatriation center in Pasay City. OWWA Administrator Patricia Yvonne &#x27;PY&#x27; Caunan said around 2,000 Filipinos mostly in Kuwait have expressed intent to return home and are now awaiting repatriation. With flights getting normalized, Cacdac noted these will facilitate faster repatriation of affected Filipinos in the Gulf region. For now, the DMW chief assured they are in close coordination with the budget department, the Office of the Executive Secretary as well as Congress to assure budgetary support, noting that the P2 billion AKSYON Fund has been heavily utilized for OFW assistance. &quot;Hindi mapagkakaila na kailangan natin ng pondo kasi nagagamit na &#x27;yung dapat sana sa pangalawang bahagi ng taon, na-accelerate na ang paggastos. So, we&#x27;re working closely naman,&quot; Cacdac said.
