Of these, 1,438 families or 5,440 persons are currently staying in evacuation centers, including 333 families evacuated on May 2.</p><p>Meanwhile, 26 families or 85 individuals are receiving assistance outside evacuation centers.</p><p>President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has ordered on Sunday the deployment of government assistance to communities affected by the ashfall from the volcano’s unrest.</p><p>“Following the President’s directive, response operations are now in full swing to protect public health, ensure safety, and keep roads and essential services accessible,” the Palace said in a statement.</p><p>The President also ordered the Department of Public Works and Highways to “remove ash from major roads” to ensure safety for travelers.</p><div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/regions/2026/5/3/heavy-ashfall-from-mayon-volcano-blankets-towns-villages-in-albay-0006">Heavy ashfall from Mayon volcano blankets towns, villages in Albay</a></div><p>Authorities said early evacuation protocols were carried out through the coordination of the OCD, NDRRMC, and local government units (LGUs) to allow residents within the six-kilometer Permanent Danger Zone (PDZ) to move to safer areas of escalating activity.</p><p>The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) on May 2 reported an ongoing pyroclastic density current (uson) on the slopes of Mayon Volcano in Albay province.</p><p>Phivolcs footage showed the lava flow collapse-fed pyroclastic density current at the southwestern slopes of Mayo at 5:38 p.m.</p><div><br/></div><div><strong>CLEARING OPS</strong></div><div><br/></div><p>Marcos on Monday ordered the clearing of roads and the distribution of masks.</p><p>&quot;Right now, we need to clean the roads because of the ashfall. And the DOH is also there and they gave masks for the smoke and the fumes that are coming out,&quot; Marcos said.</p><p>&quot;I spoke also to the Governor. And he said that all the needs of Albay so far, we have the support that was given. Well, unfortunately, we are used to it now,&quot; the President added.</p><p>The Chief Executive said the affected residents have been brought out of danger areas.</p><p>&quot;That is what we are remembering. The first concern, of course, was the health concerns. And we were able to bring out the people who were in the danger area,&quot; Marcos said.</p><p>The towns of Camalig and Guinobatan are among the most affected towns.</p><p>&quot;We were able to support them with medical attention. And now, we are working on opening all the thoroughfares so that all those who need to enter can enter, and all those who need to leave can leave,&quot; he said.</p><p>The OCD said LGUs, with support from national government agencies, continue to provide essential services and assistance to evacuees.</p><p>Response operations remain ongoing in affected areas, including the deployment of water trucks, rollout of water filtration systems, distribution of N95 masks and malongs, and clearing operations to  ensure roads remain passable.</p><p>The agency added that OCD Region V continues to coordinate, monitor and respond to developments on the ground to safeguard communities. </p><p>Authorities assured the public that the situation is being closely monitored and that preparedness measures are in place should conditions change.</p><p>Residents were urged to strictly comply with the six-kilometer PDZ and remain vigilant amid the continued unrest. <strong>—With reports from Jervis Manahan, ABS-CBN News</strong></p><div><br/></div><div><strong>RELATED VIDEO</strong></div><div><strong><span class="fr-video fr-deletable fr-fvc fr-dvb fr-draggable" contenteditable="false" draggable="true"><iframe width="640" height="360" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/MBWYwUjme5k?&amp;wmode=opaque&amp;rel=0" frameBorder="0" allowfullscreen="" class="fr-draggable"></iframe></span></strong><br/></div>
