MANILA — Davao Rep. Paolo Duterte is “pitiful” for supposedly not keeping up with current events or sourcing his information from disinformation peddlers, Malacañang said on Monday after the lawmaker criticized President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s alleged lack of achievements in his administration.Rep. Duterte’s scathing comments against the Marcos administration comes after the President told a foreign news outlet that he is worried about how Vice President Sara Duterte — the lawmaker’s younger sister — might overturn his policies should she become the Philippines’ next leader.“Lumalabas na hindi siya updated, hindi nagbabasa, hindi nanonood ng news. Nakakaawa naman,” Communications Undersecretary Claire Castro said in a Palace briefing.“Nabubuhay sa dilim, nabubuhay sa fake news, nabubuhay sa sariling imahinasyon,” she said.Castro stood by the President’s statement that he no longer shares the same views with his second-in-command, years after the vice president’s resigned as his Education secretary over alleged irregularities within the administration.“Ang pangulo pinaglalaban ang bawat karapatan at interest ng bawat pilipino sa West Philippine Sea… Aksyon, aksyon hindi bakasyon,” the Undersecretary said.“Hindi siya isang pangulo na naninira at nagbabanta sa buhay. Hindi rin po niya kinukunsinte ang fake news… at pinapanagot ang dapat managot lalo na sa mga ghost projects na hindi nangyari noong nakaraang administrasyon,” she said.Castro said Rep. Duterte that he should consider firing his staff who provided him with “ill-advised” intrigues.
