MANILA — The national government has disbursed P100 million from the Local Government Support Fund (LGSF) to rebuild the General Santos City Hall that was destroyed in the 7.8 magnitude quake that jolted parts of Mindanao on June 8. In a visit on Wednesday, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. also said that the government will give assistance worth P50,000 for the affected families of the casualties, while separate funds have been earmarked for the repair of damaged buildings in Saranggani and South Cotabato, the President said.“Now we are also working very quickly to open lahat ng daanan para kahit saan makapasok ang sasakyan natin, magdala ng tulong, mag-aayos ng electricity, water system at mabilis na ang pagdala ng serbisyo rito,” he said.“We hope we will not anymore feel aftershocks and we can continue to work to bring whatever the needs are of those who were victimized by this earthquake,” he added.As of early morning on June 10, the death toll from the earthquake that rattled Mindanao on June 8 has risen to 45, according to data from the Office of Civil Defense.<div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/nation/2026/6/10/no-classes-in-8k-schools-as-authorities-check-damage-from-mindanao-quake-deped-0950">Classes in quake-hit Mindanao areas could be suspended for months — Angara </a></div>Education Secretary Sonny Angara said that classes in affected areas may be suspended for months as the government rushes to rebuild toppled buildings and cracked roads and bridges.“Sa ngayon, may obvious na makita na mga sira pero kailangan pa rin natin tiyakin na safe kaya&#x27;t yung mga engineer ay papasok na para i-assess kung ano ba ‘yung parte ng building na pwede pang gamitin, ano yung hindi na talaga pwede,” Marcos said.“Those areas na hindi kaya pasukin ng mga sasakyan para sa mga engineer natin… para sa mga magbubuo ng sistema natin, ang relief goods, nakapag-deliver na tayo, nag-helicopter na tayo, places like Glan na hindi pa hanggang ngayon, walang road passages,” he said.Power supply in Mindanao is “85 percent back to full performance,” Marcos said.“May two plants had to stop operation. So kung nagkaubusan ng supply magdadala kami ng panibago,” he added.The government is also working to provide psychosocial services for students, teachers and other residents who may have been traumatized by the seismic event, the chief executive said.“Pati kausap ko ang mga teacher at sinabi ko sa kanila alalahan nila na traumatizing itong experience para sa mga estudyante, para sa mga bata so bantayan din nila we have a program sa DOH na tutulong sa mental health ng mga bata na dumaan sa ganitong klaseng experience,” he said.“‘Yung mga teacher mismo ang gagawin nila meron silang training after this, mag training sila para yan, precisely para makausap, provide a little therapy sa ating mga estudyante.
