Jonathan Cellona, ABS-CBN News</span></span></span></div><div><br/></div><p>MANILA <strong>(2nd UPDATE)</strong> — A breach of the Senate&#x27;s website seems to have been limited to defacement, the Department of Information and Communications Technology said Thursday afternoon, adding however, that the investigation is still ongoing.</p><p>DICT said it is coordinating with the Senate through the National Computer Emergency Response Team to contain the breach and restore the website.</p><p>&quot;Initial assessment indicates that the incident was limited to the defacement of the website’s public-facing pages. There is, at this time, no indication that sensitive or confidential data was compromised,&quot; it said, stressing it is too soon to draw conclusions.</p><p>It added it is working with the Senate, the Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center and with law enforcement agencies on the forensic analysis of the breach.</p><p>&quot;Appropriate legal action will be pursued against the perpetrators in accordance with Republic Act No. 10175, or the Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012,&quot; it also said.</p><div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/nation/2026/6/10/gatchalian-says-his-doors-heart-open-to-cayetano-and-allies-1502">Gatchalian says his doors, heart open to Cayetano and allies </a></div><div><strong>SENATE WEBSITE ON MAINTENANCE FOR NOW</strong></div><p>The Senate&#x27;s Electronic Data Processing-Management Information System (EPD-MIS) Bureau confirmed the breach earlier Thursday, saying the website “was recently subjected to an unauthorized modification, commonly referred to as a website defacement.”</p><p>It said a technical team “immediately initiated security protocols, contained the issue, and commenced a comprehensive investigation to determine the cause and extent of the unauthorized activity.”</p><p>The Senate unit said initial assessment showed there was no indication that any confidential or sensitive information had been compromised.</p><p>It noted that the website primarily contains publicly available documents and informational materials intended for public access.</p><p>As of 10:45 a.m., the Senate website displays the message: “The website is under maintenance. Please check back later.”</p><p>The EPD-MIS Bureau said additional security measures were being implemented to prevent similar incidents from occurring.</p><p>&quot;We assure the public that protecting the integrity and availability of our systems remains a top priority. We continue to closely monitor the situation and will provide updates as necessary,&quot; the Senate unit said.</p><p>The incident comes following reports of a &quot;serious&quot; threat to the security of the Senate premises.</p><div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/nation/2026/6/9/senate-under-heightened-security-amid-alleged-threat-1917">Senate under heightened security amid alleged threat </a></div><div><strong>&#x27;CYBER ATTACK PART OF THREAT VS SENATE&#x27;</strong></div><p>Acting Senate President and Senate President Pro Tempore Win Gatchalian condemned the cyberattack on the Senate website.</p><p>Gatchalian said the incident is the latest in a series of escalating threats to the security and independence of the Philippine Senate. </p><p>“This cannot be treated as an isolated incident. Ang pag-atake sa aming mga sistema, gaya ng iba pang banta na kinakaharap natin ngayon, ay krimen. At lahat ng kriminal ay dapat managot sa batas,” he said in a statement. </p><p>The Acting Senate President called on the NBI, the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT), and the Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center (CICC) to immediately launch a thorough investigation into the incident. </p><p>“Hindi kami susuko sa intimidasyon. Hindi kami hihinto sa aming trabaho para sa bawat Pilipino.
