<p>MANILA — Civil society, academic, and church groups launched their citizen watch campaign &quot;Bantay Impeachment&quot; on Saturday, June 13, to promote public vigilance in the ongoing impeachment proceedings against Vice President Sara Duterte.</p><p>Members of the House prosecution team — Bicol Saro Party-List Rep. Terry Ridon, Manila Rep. Joel Chua, and Kabataan Party-List Rep. Renee Co — were also at the launch at Claret School in Quezon City to express their support for the civic initiative.</p><p>The initiative will include forums, watch parties, rallies and other activities to monitor developments in the impeachment proceedings, expose attempts to suppress evidence or obstruct the process, and help mobilize citizens.</p><div><br/></div><div style="text-align:center"><iframe src="https://www.facebook.com/plugins/video.php?height=314&amp;href=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2Freel%2F988952317173081%2F&amp;show_text=false&amp;width=560&amp;t=0" width="560" height="314" style="border:none;overflow:hidden" scrolling="no" frameBorder="0" allowfullscreen=""></iframe></div><div><br/></div><p>“Naiintindihan natin na iba sa atin maaaring nagsimula bilang mga pro-Duterte. Pero sa dami po ba ng ebidensya, hindi pa ba tayo nakukumbinsi? At di ba ang unang dapat gawin kung may akusasyon at nasa proseso na, timbangin natin ang mga ebidensya sa halip na barahan o hadlangan ang paglilitis,” said Prof. David San Juan, convenor of Taumbayan Ayaw sa Magnanakaw.  </p><p>(We understand that some of us here may have started out as pro-Duterte. But with the amount of evidence, are we not convinced yet? And isn&#x27;t it that the first thing to do when there is an accusation and the process is ongoing, is to weigh the evidence instead of to block the proceedings?)</p><p>Senior citizens, professionals, workers and students also joined in the launch on Saturday.  </p><p>“Ang usapin ng impeachment ay dikit talaga sa sikmura ng taong bayan… Bakit ba tayo nag-i-impeach ng official? Dahil sa korapsiyon, diba? Every peso na ginagamit sa korupsyon ay peso na dapat magagamit ng taumbayan,” Joaquin Buenaflor, convenor of Youth Rage Against Corruption.</p><p>(The issue of impeachment is really a gut issue for the people. Why are we impeaching an official? Because of corruption, right?
