Courtesy: NMIS via Christopher Sitson, ABS-CBN News</em></span></span></span></div><p>MANILA — More than two tons of hot and mishandled meat were seized by the National Meat Inspection Service (NMIS), in coordination with the PNP-CIDG, during an operation conducted at a public market in Malabon in the early hours of Tuesday, June 2.</p><p>Among the confiscated items was the so-called “Galantina,” or chicken with internal organs still intact, that had not undergone inspection and may potentially carry diseases.</p><p>“Pagka ganito, tinitinda ito ng galantina o hindi pa nabubuksan ang lamang-loob, ay hindi ito dumaan sa pagsusuri ng controlling authority, meaning ito po ay hot meat,” said Dr. Fernando Lontoc, Officer-In-Charge Executive Director of NMIS.</p><div><br/></div><div><span class="fr-video fr-deletable fr-fvc fr-dvb fr-draggable" contenteditable="false" draggable="true"><iframe src="https://www.facebook.com/plugins/post.php?href=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2FabscbnNEWS%2Fposts%2Fpfbid0KkRDoFTxYmBfzaZUSfRsMHoy5GNz9YL2PDzVtid2hcGbu8QwJpURCGuuhe3jiGqql&amp;show_text=true&amp;width=500" width="500" height="724" style="border:none;overflow:hidden" scrolling="no" frameBorder="0" allowfullscreen="" class="fr-draggable"></iframe></span><br/></div><div><br/></div><p>Authorities also seized several batches of mishandled meat that were not stored under proper conditions.</p><p>“Nakatiwangwang lang, dapat po ito ay nakalagay sa mga freezer na may negative 18 degrees centigrade, dapat din ito ay may mga dokumento,” said Lontoc.</p><p>NMIS advised consumers to check whether meat vendors can present a Certificate of Meat Inspection (COMI) to ensure that the meat being sold is safe for consumption. </p><p>“Katunayan po ‘yan na na-inspect ‘yan. Bago i-release, ini-inspect po ‘yan ng tao namin at nagbibigay kami ng certificate of meat inspection,” Lontoc said.</p><p>Violators found guilty of breaching the Meat Inspection Code of the Philippines may face penalties ranging from six to twelve years of imprisonment. They may also be fined between P100,000 and P1 million, in addition to the confiscation of their products.</p><p>“Gusto rin namin silang tulungan maging legal, dapat malaman nila na may batas tayong dapat nilang sundin,” Lontoc emphasized.</p><p>NMIS assured the public that the confiscated meat with an estimated amount of P600,000 would be properly disposed.</p><p>“Ni-isang kilo walang mawawala riyan.
