<div><span class="fr-img-caption fr-fic fr-dib" style="width:960px;display:block" width="960"><span class="fr-img-wrap"><img src="https://od2-image-api.abs-cbn.com/prod/editorImage/178236068042320250407-dilg-jonvic-remulla-JC2491.jpg" style="width:960px" class="fr-fic fr-dib" width="960"/><span class="fr-inner" style="text-align:left">Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla. <em>Jonathan Cellona, ABS-CBN News/File</em></span></span></span>MANILA — The Department of the Interior and Local Government on Thursday called for amendments in the country&#x27;s firearms law to impose harsher penalties for irresponsible gun owners, following a school shooting in Tacloban that left three students dead and at least 20 wounded.</div><div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/regions/2026/6/25/dilg-says-another-potential-school-attack-foiled-1051">DILG says potential school shooting, stabbing foiled in Leyte</a></div><p>Police earlier said one of the student-gunmen used the<a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/regions/2026/6/23/tacloban-school-shooting-planned-shooter-got-gun-from-policewoman-aunt-pnp-0858"> firearm of his aunt</a>, a policewoman in Eastern Visayas, for the shooting.</p><p>Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla noted that Republic Act No. 10591 or Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act does not impose a criminal liability against a person who lets their firearms be used by another individual for crimes.</p><p>That law only allows authorities to charge the police officer with &quot;malversation,&quot; he told a press briefing.</p><p>He urged Congress to rewrite the implementing rules and regulations of the law to &quot;put a criminal aspect in the illegal use or illegal transfer of their guns.&quot;</p><div><br/></div><div><strong>PERMANENT GOREBOX BAN?</strong></div><div><br/></div><p>Remulla also said online games &quot;espousing violence&quot; like the open-world gaming platform GoreBox &quot;should be permanently banned&quot; in the Philippines.</p><p>He said the game &quot;desensitizes&quot; young people into the elements of death, violence and murder, adding that Congress should also study his proposal.</p><div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/nation/2026/6/25/pnp-orders-monitoring-removal-of-graphic-content-linked-to-school-violence-1152">PNP orders monitoring, removal of graphic content linked to school violence</a></div><p>The Philippine National Police said it would work with the Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center (CICC) to intensify monitoring of video games and online applications that may expose minors to violent behavior and safety risks.</p><p>The move follows the police investigation into a possible link between GoreBox and one of the minor suspects in the Tacloban school shooting.</p><div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/technology/2026/6/24/cicc-gorebox-ban-to-stay-until-developer-adds-safeguards-1906">CICC: GoreBox ban to stay until developer adds safeguards</a></div><div><br/></div><div><strong>IMPACT</strong></div><div><br/></div><p>PNP chief Gen.
