George Calvelo, ABS-CBN News </span></span></span></div><p>MANILA (UPDATE) — Malacañang on Wednesday confirmed that former Taguig Mayor and director Lino Cayetano is the new head of state-run channel People’s Television (PTV).</p><p>Cayetano replaces long-time television executive Malou Fagar, Communications Secretary Dave Gomez said in a statement sent to Palace reporters.</p><p>“Former Mayor Cayetano brings with him a rare wealth of experience from the media, the private and the public sector that would certainly take PTV 4 to greater heights in our ever-evolving multi-media landscape,” Gomez said.</p><p>“I would also like to extend my profound gratitude to GM Fragar for her service to the station and the nation,” he said.</p><p>The PCO has yet to say why the President removed Fagar at the helm of the state television channel, but Cayetano’s ascent to the post comes about a year after PTV anchor Mike Abe accused channel executives of corrupt practices and mismanagement.</p><p>The director-turned-government official is the youngest sibling of Senate President Alan Peter Cayetano and Sen. Pia Cayetano.</p><div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/nation/2026/6/3/marcos-on-senate-impasse-get-back-to-work-0949">Marcos to Senate: &#x27;Get back to work&#x27; </a></div><p>In 2025, the youngest Cayetano sibling urged his elder brother to<a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/nation/2025/10/6/lino-cayetano-urges-brother-alan-give-up-power-0715"> “give up power”</a> after the senator called for a<a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/nation/2025/10/6/election-lawyer-on-snap-elections-hindi-mangyayari-yun-sa-ating-saligang-batas-0831"> snap election </a>for all government posts.</p><p>“I support this proposal. I agree with my brother Alan and ask that we start with ourselves,” the former Taguig Mayor had said.</p><p>“Give up power. And this movement for real transformation will be a legacy our Father will be truly proud of. Let’s lead. The Senate will function without the Cayetanos while Taguig has a very capable Vice Mayor and the Cayetano political party has had 15 years to run Taguig City and institute reform.
