Maria Tan, ABS-CBN News"/><span class="fr-inner" style="text-align:left">Vice President Sara Duterte arrives at the Senate on the second day of the impeachment trial on Tuesday, July 7, 2026. <em>Maria Tan, ABS-CBN News</em></span></span></span></div><p>MANILA -- Justice Secretary Fredderick Vida said the sedition and grave threats complaints filed by the National Bureau of Investigation against Vice President Sara Duterte remain pending before the department&#x27;s panel of prosecutors.</p><p>Vida stressed that the DOJ&#x27;s proceedings for the sedition and grave threats complaints are separate from the on-going  impeachment process, although both cases involve the threats made by the Vice President against President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr., First Lady Liza Araneta Marcos and former House Speaker Martin Romualdez.</p><p>&quot;Tingnan din natin ng maigi, iyong impeachment process ay ibang proseso, iyan ang proseso niyan ay para mapanagot ang isang impeachable officer pag mayroong basehan at iyan nga ang dinidinig ngayon ng imepachment court natin,&quot; Vida said.</p><p>Vida said the DOJ will do its mandate as the sedition complaints are criminal in nature in contrast to the trial happening at the Senate. </p><p>&quot;Sa Department of Justice, ang pananagutang kriminal ay base sa kriminal na batas, at iyan ay may hiwalay na paglalakbay, so ang pag-aaral ng Department of Justice ng ating mga panel of proseuctors para dito ay may hiwalay na byahe,&quot; Vida said.</p><p>Filed in 2025, the resolution on the sedition complaints has been drafted already but remains under review.</p><div><a class="fr-green fr-strong" href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/nation/2026/2/20/doj-resolution-on-sara-duterte-s-inciting-to-sedition-grave-threats-cases-under-review-1841">READ: DOJ resolution on Sara Duterte&#x27;s inciting to sedition, grave threats cases under review</a></div><p>&quot;I think that would still be the status, so we just need to wait,&quot; Vida said.</p><p>Duterte, 48, is accused of misusing government funds, unexplained wealth, bribery, and making threats against the President, the First Lady, and the former House Speaker.</p><p>Sixteen votes are needed to convict Duterte on the charges, any one of which could result in her removal from office and disqualification from future elected posts.</p><p>Duterte still enjoys public support, with a May survey showing her as the 2028 front-runner and 51 percent of respondents saying they planned to vote for her.</p><div><strong>-- with a report from Agence France-Presse</strong></div><div><a class="fr-green fr-strong" href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/sara-duterte-impeachment-trial">The Impeachment Trial of Sara Duterte</a></div>
