Maria Tan, ABS-CBN News</div>MANILA— The Palace on Monday defended the appointment of former Budget Secretary Amenah Pangandaman as the new chair and chief executive officer of the Al-Amanah Islamic Investment Bank of the Philippines.Al-Amanah Islamic Investment Bank of the Philippines is a Government-Owned and Controlled Corporation (GOCC).&quot;Wala naman po sigurong masama if i-appoint niya ang isang taong sa tingin niya ay makakapagtrabaho ng maayos,&quot; Palace Press Officer Claire Castro said.(I don&#x27;t think there is anything wrong if the president appoints a person he thinks will be able to work well.)This comes amidst questions on the appointment of Pangandaman, who resigned over irregularities in the National Expenditure Program.<div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/nation/2025/11/24/pangandaman-removed-from-dbm-to-avoid-being-suspected-of-influencing-investigations-marcos-1755">Pangandaman removed from DBM to avoid ‘being suspected of influencing’ investigations: Marcos </a></div>Castro said that have been no cases filed against the former budget secretary.&quot;Kung mayroon po silang maikakaso at mayroon po silang ebidensiya — sila po ay malaya na magsampa ng kaso,&quot; she said.(If they have cases to file and they have evidence — they are free to file those cases.)The Palace official said those questioning the appointment are free to file complaints, adding the administration is open to investigating anyone, regardless of political or family affiliation.Pangandaman served as DBM chief from 2022 to 2025. She was the first Muslim woman budget secretary in the country&#x27; s history.
