Jonathan Cellona, ABS-CBN News/File </span></span></span></div><p>MANILA — President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has approved 20 out of the 16,207 amnesty applications, National Amnesty Commission Chairperson Leah Armamento said Tuesday.</p><p>Speaking to state television&#x27;s Bagong Pilipinas Ngayon, Armamento said the record number of applicants meant former rebels were showing trust in the government.</p><p>&quot;This one shows na nagtitiwala iyong mga dati nating mga kasamahang Pilipino na nagtitiwala na sila ngayon sa programa ng gobyerno na gaganda ang buhay nila kasi hindi ba itong mga rebelde na ito ipinaglaban nila na gumanda ang buhay ng mga Pilipino,&quot; Armamento said.</p><p>&quot;So, because of this amnesty parang in-open sa kanila ng gobyerno ang oportunidad na puwede silang bumalik sa gobyerno at puwede ring gumanda ang buhay nila. So, parang it reflects na mayroon sila ng tiwala at confidence sa gobyerno natin,&quot; she said.</p><div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/07/24/23/marcos-jr-offers-amnesty-to-rebel-returnees">Marcos offers amnesty to rebel returnees, asks for Congress support </a></div><p>Armamento said more than 16,000 applications were still being processed and verification takes time. </p><p>&quot;Twenty lang talaga because ang mahaba po iyong proseso ng verification kasi dapat ma-certify siya ng military at saka ng pulis na talagang siya ay rebelde at ma-certify siya ng kaniyang grupo na siya ay kasapi nila; tapos pupunta pa kami sa court for our court records kung ano ang mga crimes committed; pupunta rin kami sa fiscal&#x27;s office. So, iyong mahaba iyon iyong pag-verify ng kanilang mga sinasabi doon sa kanilang application,&quot; Marcos said.</p><div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/regions/2026/6/29/195-high-caliber-firearms-turned-over-to-gov-t-as-marcos-visits-new-military-camp-in-sulu-1832">195 high-caliber firearms turned over to gov’t as Marcos visits new military camp in Sulu </a></div><p>Of this number, 4,325 were already given safe conduct passes, which meant their warrant of arrest was held in abeyance and not served.</p><p>Once amnesty is approved, several agencies provide assistance for housing and the education of their children.</p><p>&quot;Ang ginagawa po natin kung saan ang family nila hindi ba nagkakaroon tayo ng coordination kung saan ang kanilang community to make sure na there is a community preparation,&quot; Armamento said.</p><p>&quot;Actually, ang tumutulong sa atin diyan ay iyong OPAPRU at saka DILG to make sure na tanggap sila ng kanilang komunidad kasi minsan hindi ba rebelde sila, naka-commit din sila ng crime sa kanilang community – may hostility,&quot; she added.</p><p>Armamento said that once given amnesty, former rebels will have their crimes erased.
