MANILA— Presidential Peace Adviser Mel Senen Sarmiento has been named as Government Peace Implementing Panel for the Moro Islamic Liberation Front Peace Process, the Palace announced on Wednesday.This is concurrent to his role as presidential adviser on peace, reconciliation, and unity. As chair, Sarmiento will oversee the implementation of the Comprehensive Agreement on the Bangsamoro with the MILF, a 2014 peace accord that ended a long history of armed conflict in Mindanao.<div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/nation/2026/4/21/carlito-galvez-out-sarmiento-in-as-marcos-peace-adviser-source-1158">Galvez out, Mel Sarmiento in as Marcos peace adviser </a></div>&quot;These roles will complement one another as we accelerate our collective quest to advance the Bangsamoro peace process,&quot; Sarmiento said in a statement accepting the appointment.Sarmiento earlier served as DILG Secretary from 2015-2016, under the Aquino administration.<div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/regions/2026/2/10/first-barmm-parliamentary-elections-eyed-on-september-14-2028">First BARMM parliamentary elections eyed on September 14 </a> </div>He added President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has provided &quot;crystal clear&quot; guidance on the peace process: &quot;The Marcos administration will double its efforts in implementing the landmark and historic Comprehensive Agreement on the Bangsamoro.&quot; He added: &quot;We remain unyielding in our commitments to the milestones achieved with the MILF.&quot;&quot;I look forward to working closely and constructively with my counterparts in the MILF to ensure a productive, collaborative, transparent, and time-bound implementation of the remaining commitments of the CAB.&quot;&quot;To the Bangsamoro people and our vital local and international peace partners: your unwavering support is the bedrock of this journey. I appeal for your continued, steadfast commitment as we walk this path together, shepherding a lasting and inclusive peace under Bagong Pilipinas,&quot; he said.
