<div><span class="fr-video fr-deletable fr-fvc fr-dvb fr-draggable" contenteditable="false" draggable="true"><iframe width="640" height="360" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/BKU5M62zPAw?&amp;wmode=opaque&amp;rel=0" frameBorder="0" allowfullscreen="" class="fr-draggable"></iframe></span><br/></div><p>MANILA — The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board said Thursday it was studying a potential fresh round of fuel subsidy and fare increase as oil prices ticked higher afte<a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/world/2026/7/15/us-reports-wave-of-strikes-on-iran-as-war-returns-2359">r the United States launched a new wave of strikes against Iran.</a></p><p>“Inutusan na po kami ni [Transportation] Secretary Banoy [Lopez] kahapon po para i-compute na po anong klaseng subsidiya o pag-aralan na rin po yung pagtaas ng pamasahe kasi lahat na po umakyat na rin, pati minimum wage umakyat na po,” LTFRB chairman Vigor Mendoza said. </p><p>“So we’re reviewing the impact of a fare increase to that decision o yung mga subsidiya na pwedeng ibigay,” he told DZMM. </p><p>The government currently spends about P160 million a month for the P10 <a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/business/2026/7/3/ltfrb-fuel-subsidy-directly-credited-to-e-wallet-1541">fuel discount </a>for jeepney and UV drivers. </p><p>But if the fuel subsidy is expanded for all public utility vehicles, the government would have to shell out around P2.4 billion monthly, Mendoza noted.  </p><p>On the other hand, a fare increase would have “very minimal impact” on inflation, given the recent <a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/business/2026/7/13/first-tranche-of-p85-minimum-wage-hike-to-take-effect-on-july-25-1222">minimum wage hike</a>, he said. </p><div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/business/2026/7/13/first-tranche-of-p85-minimum-wage-hike-to-take-effect-on-july-25-1222">First tranche of P85 minimum wage hike to take effect on July 25 </a><br/><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/business/2026/7/14/with-minimum-wage-going-up-by-p85-a-day-here-s-how-to-make-sure-you-actually-feel-richer-1320">With minimum wage going up by P85 a day, here&#x27;s how to make sure you actually feel richer</a></div><p>Mendoza added that regulators could approve fare hike petitions if fuel prices breach P70 per liter. </p><p>Asked whether the LTFRB would recommend fuel subsidies or fare hikes, Mendoza said, “Ang aming reco dito really would be to bite the bullet and increase fares.”</p><p>“Mas ang laki kasi ng ating subsidiya na ibibigay, P2.4 billion a month.
