<p>MANILA – The Philippine National Police (PNP) is strengthening its coordination with ride-hailing companies and local police units to improve the safety of motorcycle taxi riders following the recent fatal attacks on drivers in Caloocan City and Cavite.</p><p>PNP Public Information Office chief PCol. Allen Rae Co said the initiative aims to bolster protection for motorcycle taxi riders, following the separate killings that sparked concern among the riding community.</p><p>“Nahuli naman pareho kaagad [‘yung mga suspek] but still, kahit po ‘yung sa aksyon na mabilis ng ating local police… ay nakakalungkot ang nangyari,” Co said.</p><p>Co said the PNP is working more closely with motorcycle taxi and ride-hailing platforms to strengthen security measures for both passengers and drivers.</p><p>“Dati kasi, ang mas pino-proteskyunan ‘yung mga pasahero. Ngayon, mas pinapalakas natin ‘yung proteksyon naman nung ating mga drivers, ‘yung mga nagtatrabaho,” he said.</p><p>He added that police have increased patrols, particularly during late-night hours, to deter crimes against riders.</p><p>The renewed security effort comes after handwritten messages posted by motorcycle taxi riders on their helmets went viral on social media, appealing to passengers not to rob or harm them.</p><p>One widely shared note read, “Buntis po ang asawa ko. Huwag niyo po ako sanang saktan.”</p><p>Co said the PNP recognizes the fears expressed by riders and assured them that their concerns are being addressed.</p><p>“‘Yung kanilang aspirations or kanilang mga pangarap na makapagtrabaho lamang ng maayos at ng ligtas, ay naririnig kayo ng inyong PNP at kami ay nakikinig, nakikita namin kayo at gagawin namin at narito kami sa inyo,&quot; he said.</p><div><br/></div><div><strong>PNP URGES RIDERS TO USE 911</strong></div><p>The PNP is also encouraging motorcycle taxi riders to maximize the use of the Unified 911 emergency hotline, saying prompt reporting can help police prevent crimes and respond more quickly during emergencies.</p><p>In a separate statement, PNP chief PGen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. said the police organization is intensifying its information campaign on the proper use of the emergency hotline following the recent attacks.</p><p>“Motorcycle taxi riders should not hesitate to call 911 at the first sign of danger.
