Their cases are currently handled by the Sandiganbayan.Meanwhile, a week before Marcos’ fifth State of the Nation Address, human rights groups on Saturday, July 18, launched the LAYA campaign, calling for the release of all political prisoners in the Philippines.As part of the campaign, former political detainee Amanda Echanis, who spent more than five years in detention, urged the government to instead imprison the officials implicated in the flood control scandal, nearly a year after the controversy first surfaced.&quot;Wala pa rin naman talaga napapanagot. Mahigit isang taon na mula nung pumutok yung flood control project issues…Samantalang yung mga simpleng mamamayan na pinagtatanggol yung karapatan ng mga magsasaka, magagawa, mga marginalisadong sektor sa lipunan, sila yung nakukulong sa kasalukunan,&quot; Echanis said.
