Redrico Maranan. <em>Maria Tan, ABS-CBN News </em></span></span></span></div><p>MANILA — The Philippine National Police on Sunday said it is finalizing the security preparations for President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s fifth State of the Nation Address (SONA) on July 27.</p><p>SONAs have often been venues for presidents to highlight the administration&#x27;s achievements and identify priority legislation. It has also historically been marked by protests.</p><p>President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. will deliver his address to Congress amid questions on the progress of investigations into alleged corruption in flood-control projects that he announced at last year&#x27;s SONA.</p><p>Police Gen. Melencio Narattaez Jr., PNP chief, said the comprehensive security plan for the SONA has been finalized and units “are in the final phase of coordination, rehearsals, and deployment to ensure a safe, orderly, and peaceful event for everyone.”</p><p>PNP earlier said it would deploy at least <a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/nation/2026/7/17/pnp-to-deploy-over-20-000-personnel-for-sona-steps-up-security-for-barmm-polls-1932">20,000 police officers </a>during the annual address and will be supported by the Armed Forces of the Philippines and the Philippine Coast Guard.</p><p>Authorities have also been coordinating with partner agencies and local government units to ensure security operations and traffic management are carried out efficiently, it also said.</p><p>With progressive groups expected to stage protests at the same time, the police were reminded to exercise maximum restraint, to remain professional and to respect every Filipino’s constitutional rights.</p><p>Apart from activist groups, organizations affiliated with the Duterte family have also been holding their own protests in recent months.</p><p>“The PNP is fully prepared to secure the SONA while respecting the right of individuals and groups to peacefully express their views in accordance with the law,” Nartatez said. </p><div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/nation/2026/7/16/sona-2026-preps-expenditures-toned-down-amid-crisis-house-official-1444">SONA 2026 preps, expenditures &#x27;toned down&#x27; amid &#x27;crisis&#x27;—House official</a></div><div><br/></div><div><strong>RELATED VIDEO:</strong></div><div style="text-align:center"><iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/T-laoRis9Sw?si=1HIJXWv3Jk2vH-1d" title="YouTube video player" frameBorder="0" allowfullscreen=""></iframe></div>
