Mark Demayo, ABS-CBN News/File"/><span class="fr-inner" style="text-align:left">Chinese flags wave with Philippine flags along Roxas Boulevard in Manila on November 19, 2018. <em>Mark Demayo, ABS-CBN News/File</em></span></span></span></div><p>MANILA— China Daily&#x27;s AI-generated videos depicting Filipinos as monkeys is &#x27;unacceptable&#x27;, the Palace said on Monday.</p><p>Palace Press Officer Claire Castro said President Ferdinand Marcos Jr has already seen the video and he supports the positions made by the Departments of Foreign Affairs and National Defense.</p><p>State-run China Daily came up with AI videos and editorial cartoons depicting Filipinos as monkeys, as verbal wars continue between Chinese scholars and Philippine officials.</p><div><a class="fr-green fr-strong" href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/nation/2026/7/17/ph-officials-condemn-chinese-state-media-video-racism-has-no-space-in-society-1316">READ: DFA formally protests China Daily&#x27;s &#x27;racist&#x27; depiction of Filipinos in AI propaganda video</a></div><p>&quot;Lahat ng Pilipino, hindi na natin kailangang makita kung anong reaksiyon ng Pangulo dahil kahit sinuman sa Pilipino, hindi magiging maganda ang pagtanggap, hindi matatanggap iyong ganoong paglalarawan sa mga Pilipino na bilang unggoy,&quot; Castro said during the Monday Palace briefing.</p><p>&quot;Siguro mayroon lang tayong ilang opisyal na tanggap na sila&#x27;y unggoy pero ang Pangulo ay hindi,&quot; she said.</p><p>Asked if Marcos will summon Chinese ambassador Jing Quan, Castro said the Department of Foreign Affairs will handle the issue.</p><p>Senator Risa Hontiveros earlier urged the Palace to summon the Chinese envoy to explain the matter.</p><p>&quot;Ang ano po natin ay gumagawa na rin po ng aksiyon, si Secretary Tess Lazaro patungkol po diyan. Kung ano po ang balak ng Senado, nasa kanila po &#x27;yan at mandato rin naman po nila na alamin ang mga pangyayaring ito at para maipakita rin sa ating mga kababayan na kinukondena natin ang anumang pagmamaliit sa mga kapwa nating Pilipino,&quot; Castro said.</p><div><br/></div><div><strong>ASEAN </strong></div><p>Foreign Affairs Secretary Theresa Lazaro will meet with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi as part of the Post Ministerial Conferences of the ASEAN meetings happening in Manila this week.</p><p>DFA Spokesperson for ASEAN Asec. Dominic Xavier Imperial did not disclose if the China Daily videos will be part of the agenda, but he highlighted the significance of the meeting.</p><p>&quot;We believe that this engagement is very important, not only it will cover the bilateral relations between the Philippines and China, but it will also have something to do with regional, what&#x27;s happening globally to the region, in ASEAN,&quot; Imperial said.</p><p>The regional bloc as a whole will also have a meeting with China.</p><p>&quot;That&#x27;s a very good venue not only for the Philippines but also for ASEAN to discuss with China the mutual and common interests that they want to pursue.
