MANILA — A barangay chairperson in Victorias City, Negros Occidental was arrested after police allegedly recovered an unlicensed firearm, ammunition, and a hand grenade during the implementation of a search warrant on the official&#x27;s home, the Police Regional Office in the Negros Island Region (PRO-NIR) said.PRO-NIR director Brig. Gen. Romano Cardiño identified the suspect only by the alias &quot;Gar,&quot; 54, the incumbent punong barangay of Barangay 12 in Victorias City.Police said the operation was launched after a concerned citizen reported that the village chief was allegedly keeping an unlicensed firearm.Operatives from the Victorias Component City Police Station, together with the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) Negros Occidental Provincial Field Unit and the Regional Mobile Force Battalion, conducted surveillance and verified that the suspect was not a licensed firearm holder, police said.Authorities later obtained a search warrant and raided the suspect&#x27;s residence in Hacienda Nasipunan, Barangay 12.Seized during the operation were a caliber .22 revolver loaded with six rounds of ammunition, 63 additional rounds of caliber .22 ammunition, and a hand grenade, according to police.The suspect is facing complaints for alleged violations of Republic Act No. 10591, or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act, and Republic Act No. 9516, which penalizes the illegal possession of explosives.&quot;The recovery of an unlicensed firearm, ammunition, and an explosive device through the lawful implementation of a search warrant demonstrates our unwavering commitment to protecting communities from potential threats,&quot; Cardiño said.&quot;PRO NIR will continue to intensify intelligence-driven operations and ensure that individuals who violate our firearms and explosives laws are held accountable,&quot; he added.The suspect remains in the custody of the Victorias Component City Police Station pending the filing of charges.
