U.S. President Donald Trump announced that a temporary ceasefire has been reached between the U.S., Iran, and Israel, pausing attacks for about two weeks while Iran reopens the Strait of Hormuz and negotiations continue toward a longer-term agreement. <em>Alex Wong/Getty Images/AFP/File</em></span></span></span></div><p>MANILA — The Foreign Ministers of Southeast Asian countries issued a statement Tuesday on the evolving situation in the Middle East as they hold the 59th ASEAN Foreign Ministers Meeting in Manila.</p><div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/world/2026/7/20/iran-says-fighting-full-scale-war-with-us-2147">Iran says fighting &#x27;full-scale war&#x27; with US</a></div><p>&quot;We expressed serious concern over the rapidly evolving situation in the Middle East, particularly the renewed hostilities involving the United States of America and the Islamic Republic of Iran,&quot; the statement read.</p><p>&quot;We are deeply concerned that these developments severely undermine the ongoing efforts of key mediators and diminish the prospects for a peaceful resolution through dialogue and diplomacy,&quot; the ministers added.</p><p>The Foreign Ministers &quot;called on all parties concerned to exercise utmost self-restraint and avoid any acts that may further aggravate the situation.&quot;</p><p>Washington has expanded its strikes across Iran, who said they are now fighting a &quot;full-scale war&quot; with the United States.</p><p>&quot;We underscored the importance of maintaining regional peace, stability and prosperity, upholding international law, and promoting genuine dialogue and diplomacy in addressing conflicts and tensions, including the need for a complete and immediate cessation of hostilities across all fronts in the Middle East,&quot; the statement added.</p><p>They also &quot;reaffirmed the importance of maintaining maritime safety and security, and upholding freedom of navigation in and overflight above straits used for international navigation, in accordance with international law, in particular the 1982 UNCLOS.&quot;</p><p>&quot;We expressed deep concern over any discriminatory or unilateral measures, that may impede or obstruct vessels passing through the Strait of Hormuz, or any straits used for international navigation, which are inconsistent with international law, as reflected in the 1982 UNCLOS, and called for the restoration of the safe, unimpeded, and continuous transit passage of vessels and aircraft in the Strait of Hormuz,&quot; the statement read.</p><p>The closure of the Strait of Hormuz has impeded the navigation of oil tankers, causing massive spikes of oil prices in many countries around the world.</p><p>Foreign ministers are expected to hold Post Ministerial Conferences within the week, with energy security a recurring theme in many dialogues in Manila.</p><div><br/></div><div><strong>RELATED VIDEOS</strong></div><div><strong><span class="fr-video fr-deletable fr-fvc fr-dvb fr-draggable" contenteditable="false" draggable="true"><iframe width="640" height="360" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/78CmjZGpWIs?&amp;wmode=opaque&amp;rel=0" frameBorder="0" allowfullscreen="" class="fr-draggable"></iframe></span><span class="fr-video fr-deletable fr-fvc fr-dvb fr-draggable" contenteditable="false" draggable="true"><iframe width="640" height="360" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/D1m3dUyKK5o?&amp;wmode=opaque&amp;rel=0" frameBorder="0" allowfullscreen="" class="fr-draggable"></iframe></span></strong><br/></div>
