At siyempre, iyon ang talagang nakalagay sa Saligang Batas. So, palagay ko, masusunod naman iyon,&quot; Angara said.<div><a class="fr-green fr-strong" href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/nation/2026/2/11/-how-have-we-allowed-this-marcos-to-dedicate-remainder-of-term-to-fixing-education-1201">READ: Marcos to dedicate remainder of term to fixing education</a></div>The Constitution mandates that education should receive the highest budgetary priority among government sectors.Angara said DepEd has already presented its proposed programs to support its funding request ahead of the budget hearings.&quot;Nag-present kami. Sinabi natin iyong mga gusto nating programa at ang magpapasya talaga is ang mga mambabatas. Kami 900 plus eh, billion, 900 plus billion,&quot; he said.The proposal comes after DepEd secured the largest allocation among all government agencies in the 2026 General Appropriations Act, receiving a record P1.015 trillion, including funding for its attached agencies.The landmark appropriation marked the first time the Philippines met the UNESCO benchmark for education spending and was intended to fund classroom construction, teacher hiring and promotions, digitalization, learning resources, school feeding, and other education reforms.Budget deliberations for the proposed 2027 spending program are expected to begin in the House of Representatives in the coming weeks.Meanwhile, Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) Secretary Jose Francisco Benitez said the agency is seeking a significantly smaller budget for next year.TESDA is proposing a budget ranging from P22 billion to P24 billion for 2027.
