<div><span class="fr-img-caption fr-fic fr-dib" style="width:960px;display:block" width="960"><span class="fr-img-wrap"><img src="https://od2-image-api.abs-cbn.com/prod/editorImage/1784693625007thumbnail-F7m3y2hyWVI-1280x720 (12).jpg" style="width:960px" class="fr-fic fr-dib" width="960"/><span class="fr-inner" style="text-align:left">ES Ralph Recto called for a ‘top-level’ meeting Tuesday, July 21 with the security cluster composed of law enforcement and transport agencies in preparation for the annual event to ensure safety and avoid disruptions to commuters. <em>Office of the Executive Secretary/Facebook</em></span></span></span></div><p>MANILA (<strong>UPDATED</strong>) — Acting Executive Secretary Ralph Recto ordered concerned agencies to ensure a &quot;peaceful and orderly&quot; conduct of the upcoming fifth State of the Nation Address (SONA) of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on July 27. </p><p>Recto called for a ‘top-level’ meeting Tuesday, July 21 with the security cluster composed of law enforcement and transport agencies in preparation for the annual event to ensure safety and avoid disruptions to commuters.</p><p>In a Facebook post Wednesday, Recto’s office said he directed the Philippine National Police and the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority to intensify coordination to ensure security, traffic and crowd management.</p><p>“Isang focus ng paghahanda ay ang quick reaction sa mga insidenteng magdudulot ng abala o panganib sa mga komyuter,” it said in its caption.</p><p>The Armed Forces of the Philippines and Presidential Security Command also assured that security systems are in place for the highly anticipated event.  </p><p>“Siguruhin nating magiging mapayapa at maayos ang SONA para sa lahat …. Dapat handa tayo, magkakaugnay ang ating pagkilos, at mabilis ang ating pagtugon sa anumang sitwasyon,” Recto reported said.</p><p>Recto also underscored the importance of balancing the implementation of the law and respect for constitutional rights including the right to free speech and peaceful assembly.</p><p>“Gawin ninyo ang lahat ng kinakailangang hakbang upang matiyak ang isang mapayapa, ligtas, at maayos na SONA,” Recto stated.</p><p>“Igalang ang hindi pagsang-ayon, ngunit maging matatag laban sa karahasan, kaguluhan, at anumang banta sa kaligtasan ng publiko,&quot; he added.</p><div><br/></div><div><strong>TEACHER&#x27;S GROUP HOLDS PROTEST</strong></div><p>Meanwhile, several members of progressive group Alliance of Concerned Teachers trooped to Malacañang compound on Wednesday to protest against the administration&#x27;s alleged neglect of the education sector. </p><p>The group decried teachers&#x27; low wages and slammed the Marcos Jr. administration for touting a &quot;historic&quot; education budget while &quot;failing to address the country&#x27;s historic shortages of teachers, classrooms, education support personnel, learning resources, and other critical education needs.&quot;</p><p>The group also called for the impeachment of Vice President Sara Duterte, saying in a press release that the Marcos-Duterte&#x27;s alliance and warring factions &quot;have both inflicted lasting damage on the education sector.&quot;</p><div><br/></div><div><strong>RELATED VIDEO:</strong></div><div><strong><span class="fr-video fr-deletable fr-fvc fr-dvb fr-draggable" contenteditable="false" draggable="true"><iframe width="960" height="540" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/0S5BjrER90g?&amp;wmode=opaque&amp;rel=0" frameBorder="0" allowfullscreen="" class="fr-draggable"></iframe></span></strong><br/></div>
