Maria Tan, ABS-CBN News/File</div>MANILA — The Philippine National Police (PNP) has shifted to non-traditional tactics in its manhunt for fugitive Senator Ronald &quot;Bato&quot; Dela Rosa, with Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla saying authorities are adjusting their approach because of the senator&#x27;s extensive law enforcement experience.Remulla on Wednesday said the PNP and other government agencies remain actively pursuing Dela Rosa but refused to disclose operational details that could compromise the ongoing manhunt.<div><a class="fr-green fr-strong" href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/nation/2026/6/26/remulla-admits-he-was-remiss-in-arresting-dela-rosa-1429">READ: Remulla says he was &#x27;remiss&#x27; in Dela Rosa arrest try</a></div>&quot;Ongoing &#x27;yan. Robinhood Padilla and has not returned to the Senate or made another public appearance since.The DILG chief acknowledged that tracking Dela Rosa has been difficult because the former PNP chief is familiar with standard police operations.He said the same challenge applies to former Bureau of Corrections chief Gerald Bantag, who is also being sought by authorities.“They&#x27;re one step ahead dahil alam nila ‘yung usual, so we have to go asymmetric in capturing them. Hindi pwede ‘yung usual techniques. So, ngayon, nag-eemploy na kami ng other techniques and other strategies para makuha sila,” he said.<div><a class="fr-green fr-strong" href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/nation/2026/5/21/vida-pnp-nbi-now-tasked-to-effect-arrest-of-dela-rosa-1242">READ: DOJ tells PNP, NBI to arrest &#x27;fugitive&#x27; Dela Rosa</a></div>Meanwhile, Remulla questioned the delay in the issuance of an Interpol red notice against <a class="fr-green fr-strong" href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/nation/2026/6/4/zaldy-co-s-lawyer-still-unaware-of-his-whereabouts-1757">former lawmaker Zaldy Co</a>.He said the government applied for the notice in November 2025 but has yet to receive approval nearly nine months later, a turnaround he described as unusually long compared with previous requests.“It&#x27;s the longest one. ‘Yung kay Atong Ang, within one month. ‘Yung lahat ng iba, kay Dumlao, within one month. Ito, nagtataka kami, bakit nine months, hindi pa rin binibigay ng Interpol? Ako na mismo magfo-follow up sa Interpol,” Remulla said.For now, authorities are awaiting developments on an Interpol blue notice, which is used to help locate a person.Remulla also said authorities are coordinating with international counterparts to locate businessman Atong Ang if he is no longer in the Philippines, although he declined to discuss operational details.<div><a class="fr-green fr-strong" href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/nation/2026/7/21/pnp-verifying-reports-atong-ang-has-fled-ph-0932" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">READ: PNP verifying reports Atong Ang has fled PH</a></div>“Mahirap sabihin ‘yung mga ganyan, but we are coordinating now with all agencies around the world to locate him. Kung wala siya rito, we&#x27;ll find him, but it just takes time,” he added.On former presidential spokesperson Harry Roque, Remulla said Philippine authorities have established communication with counterparts in Vienna.He remains optimistic that Roque could eventually be returned to the country to face a human trafficking case linked to an alleged Philippine offshore gaming operator (POGO) hub in Bamban, Tarlac.“Nasa Vienna siya. Mayroon na kaming communication. Hindi siya nagtatago, but any time pwede namin siya kunin,” Remulla said.“We&#x27;ll check again in issuing a red notice sa kanya. Once that&#x27;s issued, available na siya, kunin talaga,” he added.He noted, however, that legal procedures in Europe could slow the process.Despite the challenges, Remulla said authorities remain committed to tracking down fugitives inside and outside the country.&quot;The law will continue to take its course, and we will continue to pursue those who seek to evade justice.”
